When selling an In-hand horse I use the European Judging system to describe. i,e - (this is my mare and Not for sale) Pashmina el Javier, 10yr old mare, 150cm, Body and topline 20`s, type 18`s, head and neck 17`s, movement 17`s, legs 15`s. She has huge Spanish eyes and hooky neck. For us she is a very important broodmare with her Spanish/Ali Jamaal bloodlines, I wouldnt put a price as the right person would make the right offer. My ridden mare - Tall, Athletic, typey, good conformation, moves with power and grace, good legs with no injuries, good feet, done show jumping (affiliated), xc, endurance, dressage, a real Arabian who would carry you to the end of the earth with all her heart and strength. Has been ridden by kids but can get a bit excitable hacking, 80% traffic proof, easy travel, shoe, box clip. Would not love in-hand, never bred from but this mare should have a chance of producing another like herself. Are they stunning? no! they are both important for different disiplines. Yes, they are a dream to look at in my eyes. Ive met a few horses that took my breath and gave me goose bumps, the first was the living legend Ali Jamaal. Stunning was still not the word. I would say ethereal beauty and outstanding Arabian type and extreme quality.

Justine, that's a great piece of advert writing - it's catchy and descriptive...not effusive but still complimentary. I'd defininitely ring on an ad like that, if I were looking for a horse ;) |

Pashon he is lovely!!!
Yes I'm a POB, hate the mis spelling of there/their sorry meg.
But the word stunning really gets me. I have considered posting this topic frequently. So thank you for posting.
I had a stunning mare once, she knocked me over on the track, just ran straight through me. I definately do not want to be stunned by a horse, just pleasantly surprised!!! My new horse is not stunning, she is interesting and sweet.
See pop's defination of stunning. |

I have a collection of totally different types of horses, none stunning but all very special. My coloured pony has my heart and will always be the one. You just can't put the pony to the wrong job and she wins most of the time too, but she's not stunning. This makes no odds to me she is still to me the most wonderful pony I could dream to own and I couldn't ever put a price on her! This is not because of her beauty but because of the joy she brings to my life and others.
I believe that it's a wonderful world because we all like different things and see things different. If we all liked the same thing we would all be fighting over a few horses and many would be without the true love they now have.
Stunning is maybe the wrong wording for an advert for any horse as some will agree and others not.... |
