I dont have any experience of them at all. I have seen them on other horses but very briefly.
My 3yo gelding had what I thought might of been a sarcoid about 4 inches in front of his sheath on his belly. It seemed to be getting very slightly bigger. He's due his jabs at end of month so thought Ill get vet to look at it then.
The day I was trying to get a closer look and a wee feel. He didnt seem to feel it if I wiggled it about a bit but it was firmly stuck to him, hanging down about a 1cm but not as wide. I didnt dare pull it off. So I left it but the next day it was completely gone, like its fallen off. There isnt any sore bits where it was.
Do sarcoids just fall off? I cant think what else it could of been, unless some sort of beastie and made a little cocoon or something.

| My rising 3 year old has 3 of them... all depends what type of sarcoid they are. My boy had 1 when I moved him from his stud, and I did the same as you waited till vet was out for his jabs. The vet said to leave it well alone (when tugged, pulled off or tied it can make them more aggressive) so we left it.. to my amazement in the fall it just dried up and dropped off all by itself and never reappeared. I then moved him to a new yard and it came back and 2 other small ones. The vet said they are stress related so once hes settled again hopefully they will just dry up and drop off but im keeping well alone. The more you mess around with the them the worse they can get :) everybody talks so down about them but im just pleased its a skin issue and nothing internal... near enough all horses get 1 in their lifetime |

They can and do fall off/resolve of their own accord (had experience of this with one of my mares), so it's entirely possible, just keep an eye on the site in case it recurs

Perhaps it was just a milk wart? Although usually on the
muzzle, your boy it about the right age; they disappear overnight!

| some types of sarcoids can just srop off, yes! Gravity helps, so tummy ones or those between front legs can resolve themselves in spring, when horses immunity is on the up again. Just keep an eye on the site...... that's saved you a hefty bill! |

Thanks guys.
Ill keep an eye out for them and if he does get anymore then hopefully theyl just fall off too. Do you know what can cause them? |

| On my mares passport she had several large sarcoids marked on it, but she only had a very small one behind the girth( this one is not on the passport) and I accidentally clipped it off, its about the size of a pea. So they do and can just disappear. At first I thought that my horse and passport did not match, but now that she is in her summer coat, she had a J shaped whorl that matches the passport. |
