Hi, had my reminder for the next payment of Futurity fees a few days ago and noticed that a note had been sent with it saying that this is the last scheme and it won't be continued after this one finishes due to lack of interest.
I think the original "Futurity" was the best idea. I mean of course the way in which we pay our fees from the time the mare is in foal until 2yrs and then have the class as 3yr olds. The classes were a decent size then, when my 3yr old filly (Sahir Felicite) won the Futurity back in 2004 there were 14 fillies entered in the catalogue and 14 in the ring !!!! Think this "new" way of Futurity is spreading everything way too thin and consequently classes have only one or two entries - such a shame. I think the AHS should bring back the original Futurity scheme - please.
It might also have helped if AHS made new members entering breeding stock aware of the Futurity... I would happily have entered a foal or two but didnt know untill this summer at the nationals that AHS had a Futurity.
In the previous system, Al Waha entered every foal due, and re-assessed each year which ones to continue with. When the new system came in, we stopped entering at all as the numbers for each year group obviously left each class using the year group system growing smaller as Sahir said in her post. And I wrote a letter to the AHS just before the change, querying how much money was in the pot for each section but never got a reply - it used to be printed at the top of each class in the National Show catalogue!! Gave up entering sorry .
