| Started watching but got annoyed at no 130 for yanking on that poor horse and had to turn off. There are some lovely horses on there shame about some of the handlers . |

| Lovely to watch the horses, but I agree with sab2, was not happy with a lot of shanking with some horses but that's nothing new. Always impressed with the efficiency of this service with the results and catalogue available. Though must say congratulations to Ava! Looking forward to tomorrows classes. |

Yes, I should! I don't know why I've not thought of popping in to see Marianne & Dave (I think the last time I was there I borrowed a horsebox....many, many moons ago). I always see Marianne at HOCON - usually when I'm out of breath having sprinted the arena!

| Just an observation but bearing in mind I haven't been to an international show ie Aachen for some time I think the handlers are definately worse. They are pushing there luck in the ring more and more. DC's where are you - too much !! The pose is far too important and at what cost. Haven't enjoyed viewing.......sorry. |

| I think there was far more threatening behaviour. The pose is becoming more and more intent. The pressure on the handlers is immense, second place is first place looser. No I think it's worse. Bravo to the guy in the Panama hat though he had a good old battle with most of the handlers !! |

Sven Svensen(sp?) was the ringmaster Delyth........ he needed danger money as many handlers ignored him and ran horses at him every which way!!
Emma was as always, a pleasure..... as was Premier,lord but that horse can move!
The quality of horses was fabulous, which is why I find it so vile to see the obvious pressure and worry in the faces and in the body language of many......... not all, but many!!
Still believe that some serious moderation and more Mr.Svensen's would make the whole show scene seem worthwhile in the eyes of all!!

I must agree - very upsetting to see some of the poor horses obviously terrified of their handlers - and all the shanking to get the ridiculous Saddlebred pose. I also noticed several horses with badly capped hocks - and this seems to make no difference to the placings either.
Unfortunately some of the most aggressive handlers seem to get placed every time - so what kind of an example is that for the young handlers starting out !!!
There were some really awesome horses there though - so I have been sitting at my computer drooling for the last couple of days.  |

sorry ignorant post here, what does DC stand for?
Must say I was shocked at how these stunning horses were being handled, and to someone new to the breed but who has shown other breeds for quite a while the way they ran the horses out was quite confussing, and I presume it would NOT be wanted in our showrings, all that twirrling them round and runing them any which way, one guy was very thankfull of the length of his lead rein or he would have been eating those flowers at the top end of the arena. |

Such a shame to see our lovely horses degraded in this way.Had to walk away several times so as not to watch pathetic bullies handling these beautiful animals.Some of the poor fillies were scared witless.
Unfortunately,this is the way of in-hand showing nowadays.
Hope the DC's in this country do a better job as most of the handlers seem to do whatever they wanted.

Had the most amazing time in Aachen!!!
Stunning horses,great people, fabulous atmosphere and wonderful to meet the horses in the stables.
Will try and post pics of the horses later.

Mean spirited people torturing beautiful horses -for what?
The pose was invented by US handlers to create a job for themselves IE amatuers cannot reproduce the pose because they will not go to the extreme lengths of abuse to acheive it .
Europe have followed like sheep and should be ashamed that it exists here .
I want to see a ban on the heavy lead reins -watch the handlers again if you want to see why .

Delyth is right... standard of horses was very, very high, the general standard of handling getting worse, with a few honourable exceptions. The general acceptance of shanking no longer makes me angry. It is just depressing and I felt uncomfortable on Saturday to be a spectator and thus participant in such aggression. It looks exactly the same to me as someone walking up and punching someone else on the face for nothing. I am proud that even after all these years I am still wincing every time I see it, and I do not intend to get used it. I'm not even sure I would go to Aachen again just to watch, all the yowling for those extreme poses looks too much like going to watch the bear baiting. I would have sent out the stallion that reared up and nearly fell over backwards on the judges when he was shanked and agree that the DCs did not need thanking for that, it was a dereliction of duty. I also hate to see mares pinning their ears when asked to stand up.
Stuart thank you for you comments, Premier was, as ever, a joy to show and I am glad he has the home he deserves at Marley Arabians. Mark Gamlin summed his performance up perfectly. " Aah, Premier went like" he paused for some time..."PREMIER" It is hard to compare him to any other horse and I am proud that at 17 he is still THRILLED to get into that showring. |

The quality of the horses - amazing.
The shanking is yuk but has anyone looked at what is happening in the collecting ring never mind what is happening in the ring itself? Truly awful. The DC's can do nothing, hello ECAHO??!!
The saddlebred stance makes me laugh as it's all to have a level topline though it's patently obvious some don't as soon as they walk, but ..... every handler seems to do it these days.
Some horses didn't dare move and were frozen even when the lead rein was dropped.
Leg scores? 16's and 16.5's even for horses with their feet pointed at 12.45 and 1.15. Why bother with leg scores?
Movement scores are also a joke. Good movers are not rewarded.
Tail carriage - gone, gone, gone in many horses but surely the tail carriage should be considered in the type marks?
