Hi im going to be backing my pure bred steel grey gelding next year, and my head is spinning trying to find out what tack is preffered in the show ring, i know he isnt going to be in the ring next year but im intrested for future reference

I have noticed that most pure breds are ridden in plain cavesson bridle and working hunter/show saddle?

What colour are you opting for? make of saddle/bridle etc, just curious. Thankks in advance xx

Lily has a black Bates saddle and a black rolled bridle, not particularly with showing in mind, just because I like rolled bridles on an Arab head, and black because she is grey.

I have a lovely flocked synthetic dressage saddle which I bought second hand about two years ago, It's an adjustable & is on X-wide! to fit my mare. It is fitting my filly already & I'm planning on using that for backing then, when she's older get a decent saddle for showing. They always change so much. Bridle is just a nice raised cavason with a lossenge snaffle.

Aww thanks jane.

Hi angelarab, whos your horse? He may be out late in the season, he isnt four till june, i cant wait.

Thanks everyone, i just wondered if black or brown tack was better. I know brown is more correct for showing, but i love black tack on greys

I have been following this thread but not really had anything to add. My current tack is brown, a Barnsby bridle and Kieffer dressage saddle but I will be changing it next year. I intend to buy a black rolled or comfort bridle and black leather GP. I too love black tack on greys

Brown is considered correct for showing, I have a brown Ideal Ramsay saddle and a very fine bridle which can be used as a snaffle or double with an extra headpiece.

Just to clarify my post above, that is her 'posh' tack. The rolled bridle is a double bridle (if desired). Her everyday tack is an english cut specialized saddle and either a synthetic Dr Cook or a biothane endurance bridle.
