I have 3 generations of Arabs. I am lucky wnough to have them right out side my door. :) so heres my little family.
This is Mel Kazar aka Barty. pure arab He is 24 and still competing in endurance. though i have limited him to 34km now. I have owned him since he was a yearling. although now gelded i do also have his one and only offspring. Hes a lovely boy.
This is Shy Talks aka Talky. (Bartys Daughter)p/b. she is 18 and has been retired for the last 7 years due to serious laminitus in both fronts. she had 45% rotation in both and had to have dorsal wall resections. my 3 year old son rides her around the paddock. i'm hoping to put her in foal this summer to keep Bartys line going. Though she is currently lame on her O/S/R
this is Talkys daughter by Pommage Khan Bazzar Inkhantation aka Beaux. she is 13. i originally solf her as a youngster so didnt do much with her. buyers changed there mind so i was suddenly left with a fairly wild beasty. she then became my foundation parelli horse. i figured we could both learn together. I backed her and she started on a natural journey. Though things got worse and she started behaving very dangerously. I thought i may have been the "Teenager" in her. she got very heard shy and clostrophobic. she has put me in hospital 3 times. i finally call the the vet to examin her has her behaviour is to strange to mention. Beaux is now retired until i win the lottery due to having a granulosa cell tumour the size of a water melon on her right overy. shes not in pain but is unridable. shes loves human contact on her terms.
Its nice to meet you all. Im fairly new on here too but so far it makes some interesting reading. Beaux looks just lovely...Im a sucker for chestnuts! I have 23tb chestnut mare..someone once suggested to me she had a tumour cos of her behaviour but she has settled down now with only the odd mishap. I also have dark bay 2yo part bred arab. Im totally loving his nature and am really looking forward to many years together. I hope you enjoy it on here!
Vik1. i had the vet do an internal on her. confirmed huge tumour. :( she seems calm enough now if her routen isnt altered and nothing changes. But a field change can blow her mind.
Hi fee. They can but its risky. And very pricey. The safest opp is over 12k and the riskier one is about 3k I can't afford it. Shes not insured.
Oh crap that is a lot! If I win the lottery I'll give you the money for the 12k one so that's it's less risky for her. Such a shame for you both
bless you. i have tried and tried to save. have contacted the vet schools to see if they want her for the students to do the opp on (under attendance obv.) but everything is failing. and now her age is against her really. 13 now, even if i have the money, its a year of rest with minimal paddock useage. Beaux goes crazy if shes in the stable for more than 24 hours. so i guess she'd have to be sedated??? or she would get depressed. my stables overlook the paddock so it would drive her crazy to see the others out. then say she is "ok" after the year then she'd be 14 nearly 15 and i'd have to start from scratch. that aside, she blew her tendon in the spring, so has a fat leg and is intermitantly lame / sound. have to think if its worth it now??? if she was a steady horse i think i'd still be hoping to go ahead with it, but as i dont really know what her "normal" behaviour is i'm not sure. Plus theres no guarantee that i could breed from her after so i may aswel spare her the pain and missery of going throuhgh it. This mare has given me many many sleepless nights. lol.
