I am remembering something about a horse buyer warned about on AL. I have had an offer for my horse to go to Italy. He wants to send money but he isn't coming to see her. She is not an arab, but I want to tap into your collective experience. I wouldn't normally consider selling abroad and I will certainly be doing more finding out about this man before proceeding. Does anyone remember the name of the chap who was buying arabs? This one is called J Cosmos. Thanks any info gratefully recieved.
I hope I am not going to upset you know but I wouldnt sell my horse to anyone who hasnt been to see them.
Loads of stories about people geting conned out of money though and I would procede with absolute caution on this. Please please look very carefully into this and make sure it is not a scam to get money from you.
What sort of mare is she? Is she a mare that someone might buy "sight unseen" for her breeding/performance? If not, it sounds a bit iffy.
I bought Shalique "sight unseen" when she came to UK from Countess Penny in Sweden but I already had her full sister and I like those bloodlines. I also paid for her by bankers draft before I got her and she came to the Jonses's to be sold and I know them.
I've bought five horses sight unseen (well photographs) from abroad, so people do do it, is there something about this horse that a foreign buyer would be interested?
Thanks for your replies. I would sell my horse to someone who hasn't seen him/her, but only if I can make the final decision when they come to pick the horse up. He has seen loads of photos and she is a horse that would be worth buying unseen.
I can put all of your minds at rest now because although I haven't been able to find anything bad about him, I am still not comfortable with my mare going abroad as I would have no way of intervening if anything went wrong. This is not a criticism of anyone who does sell abroad.
I had posted this topic mainly to pick your brains and to highlight pit falls in selling. This chap could turn out to be a scammer.
I also bought my horse through AL and unseen as we're in SW France and he was in SE England. Did send a very knowledgeable friend to see him though and he was paid for in full before he stepped on to the transporter. I'd also spent quite a long time on the phone to the owner, asking my own questions and answering them in return. Just cos we're abroad, doesn't mean we're scammers or horrid owners.

I quite agree. There are scammers and bad owners in UK just as there are abroad. I have sold 2 horses abroad; one to France and one to Sweden and they both have super homes with lovely owners. However, there are quite a few scammers from abroad who answer adverts for horses and pay with dodgey checques and your horse has gone and so has the money.
