Well, he didn't let the arabs down, you must be pleased with him. Glad to see he appears to be over his knee injury, they are most worrying |

Hi Claire - thanks for sharing your lovely video and wonderful to see you both out and about having fun and flying the flag.
Couple of suggestions - feel free to ignore them!
Mirshid has a lovely strong colour and you can really exploit it for the dressage and present a super, crisp picture. Try putting a white, square saddle cloth on that will show a super contrast with his colour and will help sharpen up his outline. You can help too by putting your hair up in a bun or nicely tucked in a net - again, it's to present an image of sharp edges. If you have a black jacket, you could try that as well. Lovely to see his mane plaited and it looks very neat.
The only other advice I would give is for you to relax a little and enjoy it. Try raising your hands rather than have them wide and low, that will help him drop his head and you'll get more contact and he'll be more on the bit. He looks very balanced and your hands will help him keep straight and show off how well balanced he is.
Looks like you're going to go from strength to strength
Keep on and please keep sharing photos, you both look so good together. |

You look lovely on him, so nice and straight and upright. I always think dressage tests should be longer, it seems a lot of preparation for 4 minutes.. |

he looks like a poppet. My tip ENJOY! It's too easy to let nerves get the better of you then you tense then the horse tenses then things go downhill. So Smile relax and pretend you're on your own at home with him. |

Thanks guys for the encouragement and suggestions, my hands are a bit of a work in progress as to be honest I am a happy hacker at heart and struggle with the idea of holding a contact at all which is why I've started filming- I couldn't see what my instructor was saying re keeping my right hand stiller- thanks to studying this though the penny has dropped!! Templars thanks for the suggestions re turnout I do indeed have a black jacket..if I can still get it on and will definitely try and get a white saddle cloth.. my hair was actually in a net although it fell out during warm up due to a large hole where it has previously got velcroed to my stock oops! Think the relaxing thing is only going to come with practice so will keep you updated! Many thanks again for the encouraging replies and suggestions |

Hi Claire, just my two penn'o'th....firstly well done , you have obviously got a lot going for you both and for a first time out after injury it was fine. Obviously I don't know what test you were doing (and couldn't hear the caller v. well) but it did seem you were not using the whole arena, ie; you were not getting into the corners or reaching the 'track' on the circle. Forgive me if I'm wrong, as clearly on a 15m circle you won't meet the track!
Templars - I wish raising my hands was all I needed to do to get Willow to drop into a contact, she is a monkey!
Keep up the good work. |
