hey hope everyone is well...

Just wondering whether anyone has been watch Scottsdale on the live feed?!

I have been watching it pretty much religiously haha and really enjoying it... finally getting my head around how the classes work ect

I'm enjoying mainly the 'hunter pleasure' classes which are very similar to ours in the horses way of going ect some seriously stunning horses that I wouldn't mind having in my stables!!! They are all impeccably turned out with a few 'head scratchy things' such as the 'mud knots' they put in some of the tails, and how they wear breastplates, but I suppose it's just fashion like over here with pretty brow bands and white girths!!!
Also fine it strange how they plait pure breds, although from watching the European champs they plait the pure breds in those also!!!
They are all stunning though and just create a stunning picture I must say!!!

I'm not sure on the 'English pleasure classes or saddle seat' (i still haven't learnt the difference!!!) though all seems very forced and excessive!!! The movement is very choppy...

The western has been very good as well, never get to see it really over here but really enjoyed it I love it when,

also been enjoying the Side saddle although there seems to be two different 'styles' the natural way of the horse going and turned out similar to the 'hunter pleasure classes' which are just beautiful, and the 'english pleasure style' which looks very uncomfortable and bouncy!!! I know which style I would pick to ride side saddle haha!!!

I loved watch the young rider classes, so many children having fun and the horses looking after them perfectly!!!

I really enjoy watching it and learning, and I'm currently considering a gap year when I finish uni and going over there and learning more about the ridden classes, especially the hunter pleasure...

so anyone else been watching it, I know there is lots of controversy but there is in everything...

Oh how can I forget the A-M-A-Z-I-N-G native costume classes, what a blast they are!!!

I wish we still had them!!! i think we are missing out on a large attraction for non-arab even non-horsey people to our shows!!!

Hey Jess,

Can't say I'm keen on the American way of showing but I could really do with an Arab fix about now... What's the link?

Yes I know what you mean with certain classes and defiantly the inhand although I have enjoyed watching as I said especially the hunter pleasure classes and native costume!!! (you've just missed the native costume!!!)

Oh btw there is an hour break for lunch and it will start again at 8pm

I don't know whats on next... it all seems to be randomly laid out instead of all classes staying together it is very random with western then english, then western the native costume ect very strange hahaha

Well I've never seen a Western Pleasure class before ... alot of entries - but how could they be judged so quickly - no individual show ... ????

Well this is ... DIFFERENT ... Arabian English Show Hack??? (should that be hackney??)- how weird are this lot???
Not too keen on those VERY long tails ... nor them sort of being "transformed" into hacks with plaits and braided tails - I like the UK Arabs being shown as ... Arabs!!!
Will be interesting to see who wins - I haven't got a clue!!!!

What worries me is what these poor horses go through to get that hackney movement.
Its not natural to the Arabian :(

Picking this up! I thought that black would win!!! Would be nice for UK to have classes for "older" riders! I think I could cope with a "gentle" class like that one's just been!

it's very unnatural movement isn't in the 'english pleasure' looks very uncomfortable, can you imagine going on a hack on something like that!!! you'd certainly come back bruised!!!

I'm very surprised with how they judge also, I think there are a few judges though!!! Although still how do they take all the horses in properly in about 5 mins!!!

I have to say i'm LOVING the voice over though ''lets go into a canter, canter your horse please'' HAHA!!! LOVE IT

I joined the chat thingy and asked if the judge ever rides in the classes, and got replies of ''never heard of that before how strange''

and everyone on the chat was picking out horses instantly and they would be right!!!

I don't like how they don't all get to do a lap of honor though, and the people that don't win are just handed their rosette by the steward as they are funneled out the ring, seems a little degrading!!!

I do wish we had entries like they do though, would be so nice to see more horses and more classes!!! okay maybe not to that extreme but more classes, and defo native costume bought back haha

All very odd if you ask me! Why insist on altering a horses natural flowing movement to mimic something it isn't? Baffles me Are these the classes where the weight the shoes to alter the gait?
God knows what they think of our classes! (note to self..need to dust off ones bowler hat for a jaunt out in an english pleasure style )

Yes I think the 'English Pleasure' is where they wear 'shoe shoes' as they call them?! which are very heavy I think the higher the knee action the 'better' the horse even if they have a shuffling back end, I was watching an english pleasure class the other day and it had a very beautiful practically white grey in quite a large class and you could see the horse was pretty much lame on its right back leg and was VERY uncomfortable, and there was barely any moment in it's back legs but it had VERY high front leg action... and it came Reserve Champion I have to say I was very shocked...

There are 'Show Hack classes' where they dress in top hat and tails and horses turned out similar to dressage horses... which have a high knee action but it's more natural (although not araby in my opinion) and they don't wear waited shoes!!!

An interesting point about the exagerated movement. When in Spain a few years ago we happened to meet an American lady who did dressage and were very surprised to hear that one of her sucessful dressage horses had been a champion Park Horse (the most exaggerated movement) before she bought him. She said after a summer at grass with no shoes on his movement returned to normal only presenting itself when he got really excited. I was amazed he could present the totally different picture of a dressage horse.
Just shows how adaptable Arabs can be.

Jean
