I have never used this before for my Kira but thought I would try her on it. I was wondering when you would add this to your mares feed? While in season or all the time?
My Kira is rising 4 this year and we do have problems with her being in season all the time,I think she's on her 2nd already this year! I feel sorry for her sometimes as she looks at me as if to say "Whats Happening"lol She's not aggressive but squirts at everything she does seem tender on her flanks. But with her in season quite a lot do you think I should feed it everyday? Or do you just wait for her to come into season then feed it?
Thanks Jo

I've never used it but a friend of mine did and she's regretted it ever since. she found that her mare was brill while on it but she couldn't get her off it. she even described her mare being like a heroin addict going cold turkey so has ended up keeping her on it all the time. this is probably just a one off thing but worth being aware of i think :) |

We have used it successfully a number of times, but only when 'symptoms' were evident. Was especially good with our 2yo last spring when used for about a week for her first 3 seasons then seemed to settle with no problems since. |

Well Im doing an Oestress experiment this year with my 23yo tb mare. She is a blinking nightmare come the breeding season (only started when I moved to a livery yard). Her behaviour goes completely out of control. Tramples over the top of you. Clings to another horse (normally owned by someone else so causes problems). They cant take their horse out the field unless mine comes too. Shouts til shes hoarse in her stable if its not beside her. Batters anything that comes near it. Runs constantly up and down the fence line even when the 'chosen one' is there (can be a mare or gelding)and loses all her weight. This goes on from about march til july time, then she calms down and I have to wean the 'chosen one' off her like a foal. Last year I tried Regumate....too expensive and when she came back into season it was 5x worse...not worth it. I looked into the 'marble' but none of the vets round my area know anything about it. So this year Im trying Oestress. Ive been feeding it everyday since end of December to make sure it is well and truly in her system. So far, she is starting to show signs of clingyness by shouting if I take my 2yo out of sight so Im not too sure. Will keep everyone posted. |

I used it on Ishara last year with great effect. My understanding though is you need to take them off it over the winter or they can become immune. I will start feeding it again probably March/April and keep her on it until the Autumn. |

Thank You all for your replies, I am going to try Kira on it as of this week. So will see how we get on.I had the vet out this week who advised Regumate which is a so called mare pill! I didn't ask how much it was.
Maybe because we have just moved yards has made her a little stressed and new mares/geldings bringing her into season all the time, poor thing. We had a little bit of a dilemma last week when I turned her into the school to play with Leisha while I mucked out,We nearly had shire cross arab babies the said colt nearly jumped the fence luckily he landed on his back (all ok) being clumsy. I think he thought all his birthdays has come at once-lol, she is suck a slut.
Anyhow I will let you know how we get on.

It cost me £45 for regumate. It lasted 10 days I think it was. We used that time to wean her off another livery's gelding. It stops them having a season during this time and then after the dose is finished they come into season. The season is a very strong hormonal one!! She prob just uber excited. My mare was fine with my old gelding and another mare but as soon as we took her onto a livery yard, the hormones started to play up. She really like the boys and unfortunately she hasnt calmed down any over past few years. Maybe cos theres stallions on the yard. Your mare might, its still early days at the new place...good luck, hope it goes well. |
