Wow that was hard to watch but I guess all's well that ends well.
Pulling so hard against the contractions though, made me wince and pulling out rather than down, poor mare - bloody big colt though!
She looks shattered and so she will be after almost 3 days of on/off labour. |

They both look shattered..
That was pretty scarey to watch... If I have to assist I pull with the contractions towards to hocks, not straight out..

I am not surprise the way she just handled that foal... broken ribs springs to mind.... hold the chest and rump, not right under the stomach.. |

Stumbled on this thread just in time to see the colt being born / heaved out.... thought it was touch and go for a bit - good to seem him up on his feet now! |

Oh dear, they've turned off the web cam now, lots of really nasty, horrible comments on another forum. I can appreciate why people had strong feelings about it all. I've looked at various other foalings of theirs on Youtube. It was lovely to see the mare and foal alive though and the people foaling obviously care about the animals and are doing what they think is best. The "full-on-intervention" route is not what a lot of us would choose but to villify the poor girl like that was hideous. |

Last I heard is that the foal was down and not suckling.
They referred to him as a 'dummy foal' but a fair few said that he's got broken ribs.......
Will go off and attach link which hopefully will be OK with Admin as it is another forum but an American one. |

It would be hardley surprising seeing that she was hauling him to his feet with an arm under his rib cage...
Latest update I have read is that the foal is still down and has not suckled. The mare still hasn't passed the afterbirth and that they are waiting for the vet.
