to collect (semen )from a colt/stallion have it frozen and stored have said colt/stallion then castrated and still register stock as pure bred ?????
I ask as I have a lovely (in my biased opinion )rising 2yr old colt (95% crabbet) that I will be having the op on shortly,as I have no wish to keep a stallion as lovely as he is and with the current market don't wish to breed but as he is high % crabbet would like to freeze his goods for the future.
Yes it is perfectly feasible. Check with the AHS on the details, I think you will have to get him licensed etc, but they will know what paperwork has to have its t' crossed and i's dotted.
I think you will find the collection and storage fees will be costly, my bill was £3,000 while my stallion was away being collected and the storage is several hundred pounds a year which can add up to quiet a bit, just so you have something to think about before you go ahead
My god Lynda, where did you take him.............The Ritz!!! I know it can be done a lot cheaper than that.......maybe prices have come down since you did it?
Ahhh then it was The Ritz lol!!! I know someone who can do this at home, or she has her own small stallion station with all the relevant equipment. Wouldnt be able to afford it otherwise!!!
Thanks all for your replies, will give ahs a call re paperwork and look into the hows wheres and cost of collection and storage but nice to know it is possible so may be an option
