I came across this on the Showing forum having never heard of it before. I am pretty new to showing but we have had such a successful year with our 3yr old we have got quite into it and thought this may be a perfect start to showing for our baby.

However, i do have a few questions/concerns.

He is, at present, busy being a baby. He is fed twice a day, checked over, feet picked, haltered, led etc but all of this has been done with his mum present. He was born 20th May so is only rising 5 months.

We backed off his handling quite a lot as he was becoming quite dominant & aggressive and since doing this his manner has improved hugely.

My main concern is how do we make the transition from being a baby to going to his first show without frightening/stressing him to death. Elliot's eyes were on stalks at every outing this year as if he couldn't believe there was a whole new world outside his beloved farm, and he is 3!!!

How would we travel him safely?? He has never seen a trailer as of yet. Do i take the partition out? What about the breast bar?

What about poor mum who I'm assuming will be left behind? Or would she go with him??

I have a million questions to ask, sorry if its a bit of a ramble but have never been anywhere with a baby before and its a scary thought!

Hi Emma, the full schedule, Entry Forms and Simmary of Entry form can be download from my website below...click on British National Foal Of Year Show key and you will see pics of all last years Champions and Reserves, All Class results and 2009 Show Report

The Show in in it`s eigth year and we get full report in H & H and also this year in Showing World Magazine

I also have a thread on this topic under the Showing forum which will be of interest for you

It really does help to take your weaned foal out to get it used to loading, travelling etc etc

Best way to travel a foal in a trailer...take out partotions and breast bar, nice deep bed and travel loose with back top doors closed
Place hay loose on the floor (better than risking hay net and foal getting hung up in it) As he is 5- months old if he is in good condition it would be best to wean him in the next couple of weeks. Mares are not allowed in the showring and will stress out Mare and foal, if Mare is calling for foal.

Foals do seem to take all in their stride and so far all have been quite relaxed and appear to enjoy the day out meeting other foals

The Showrings and collecting ring are indoors Dress code for handlers and foal bridling can be seen on the website Trust this helps
