Can anyone recommend one? The one the little s*d is in now is an Amigo, and he's managed to put holes in that in less than a day...he was unrepentantly ripping at it even before we left this morning...!

Hi MinHe , I would recommend although not a fly rug as such is the kool coat combo .because its made of cotton material it doesnt rip as easy if atall. i had a derby house fly combo an a cob with bad sweetitch and he totally wrecked it and had to get something quick . so put my arabs kool coat on him and ended up staying on him as it worked brilliant .also my welsh and shetland have worn masta star fly combo and weatherbeeta with the buzz print combo and they rip them but not too much one of those rugs will last them a summer . Im wondering if your horse likes the feel of the amigos ? not that ive actuaslly had te chance to touch one but they dont look soft material? i was considering trying the amigo next year for the ponies as they are reasonably priced x |

Hi Just wondering how it is being ripped? Fences or biting?
I have a pagony (boett) style... Lovely soft material. My little colt keeps nibbling daddys rug and gets a few small holes which I can easily stitch up, but the rug doesn't get ripped to shreds.
Ihave also started putting fly repellent on the rug too which is helping it not being bitten (by anything!)

My boy has a Rambo protector - and (touch wood) so far he hasn't damaged it at all - and he is also very good at breaking rugs for a pastime!! :) |

It must an Arab thing. When I first got Saahm he could not have a rug on! He would shred anything within an hour of having it on. Mrs Tatam had tried for years, he even got a really nasty wither injury once trying to get a rug with a surcingle off and still has the white hair/scar to prove it! Luckily now after lots of patience and many destroyed rugs we can keep a rug on him! We normally have to buy 1 or 2 new ones a year. I tried the Amigo Mio fly rug which is like a silvery colour and that survived nearly a year and a half but got pulled to bits about a month ago. A friend of mine had a brilliant Mark Todd one which was more of a woven plastic which would have been perfect but do you think I could find a 6ft one! No! So I would be interested to hear what people recommend. But I have to say I would be reluctant to spend more than £50 in case it gets the "teeth treatment"! |

Thanks for the suggestions, folk - Louise, the swine in question is *also* a Marawan grandson, what a co-incidence, eh? He has no fence to catch it on, it's all done by teeth, LOL! Will look in to the Aerborn - annoying, their factory used to be in Nottingham until last year! - and the Mark Todd.

I have heard that Aerborn are no longer trading..... I used to live near their factory and always went to the sales, since not having a horse I obviously had not been for a few years, now this year I wanted some and asked my friend who lives near there when the sales were on and she said they are no longer there Hope you manage to find something suitable. Keren, that is a coincidence! I have watched Saahm do it and it is definitely done by his teeth. He reaches down and pulls at the side until a small hole appears and then he pulls and pulls until a nice big hole appears!!! Will get straight on and check out the Mark Todd ones! |
