Its been a while since my last indulgent post, but after picking all your brains about long reining I HAVE to share Sunny took wearing his new roller like a big boy a week or so ago, sniffed it, tried to eat it & then forgot it was there! So he's been pottering about with it on for a week or so. Last week we kitted up with all our party gear & with the help of a friend tried him with 2 lines. Were we bothered about the lines behind us? No siree..we were more concerned about following the lady infront in case she had a stash of toffees in her pocket. Wandered about for 10 mins following my friend & despite it blowing a gale & having every child in the area on the yard popping up from behind bushes, he took it all in his stride. As I've never long reined properly, yesterday a friend offered to start him off for me. I trust him implicitly & Sunny knows him, he has a lovely calm manner about him & has worked with arabs before. A few stroppy tantrums "I can't POSSIBLY walk forwards..I can't possibly do it again on the other rein..Arghh theres a pony eating monster behind those bushes!" but after 10 minutes he settled down & pottered about quite happily. We had a small gathering of spectators expecting hysterics from the 'mad' Ginger Ninja & he did me proud! So tonight geared myself up for the lone attempt. Expecting at least some 'discussion' as he knows mum is a big of a softy In the arena, had a friend hold him whilst I sorted my lines out, then my friend stepped outside. Asked him to walk on and he just strode out beautifully, round the arena, changed reins, calm as you like!! We even had high praise off my YO..and believe me she's of the 'arabs are a bit mad' train of thought! I so proud of him and haven't stopped grinning since!! Needless to say lots of carrots & cuddles followed...I LOVE my mad crazy arab Sorry its a bit long winded but I just had to share

He's a beeeautiful ginger ninja!!! Long reining so nice when it starts reallly clicking with them. I have my mum visiting so took her to boz to show her what he can do. We only did 10 mins in the gathering dusk and he was perfect. Bliss. Enjoy
Perhaps we should have a topic showing all our youngsters progress!! The junior club!!! |

Isnt he gorgeous?!
So glad its going well. Its a wonderful introduction to ridden work - gets them used to a contact and really cements your relationship. I found it invaluable, and i'm sure its why Gus is taking so well to proper work!
Good luck & have fun |

We are happily long reining out and about. I lead him on busier of the country lanes, then I am onto the transpennine trail which is a bridleway. I only have a field unless i rent a local arena for £10 an hr! I think its good for them to work on the grass!!!
But I did ride him in the school for the our 1st go!! |

He looks lovely and like he is really enjoying wearing his grown up clothes Well done. You are very brave putting you life in your hands standing behind that mad chestnut Arab. Sounds like yard owner is going to be a convert into the land of Arabitis. |
