Hi would welcome people to share any tips on making homemade fly spray. I followed a recipe of horse and hound forum which i am trying jst now been using for nearly a week and the flys have stopped landing on their backs but still like to attack the eyes and udder obv cant put spray near eyes but would welcome any tips ideas . my recipe is Fill litre bottle (i used a milk carton ) with cold tea as youd just make a cup to drink normal strengh then add squirt of body lotion and squirt of washing up liquid (this is to carry the essential oil so it says).and then added a capful of citronella oil give a gd shake then put into an old spray bottle.
and also i have to add there has been no klegs biting since either.:)

I am about to make this one. My problem is find a spray bottle that doesn't seem to seize up after a couple of uses. I must be jinxed with them.

We used to use equal parts : cold tea & vinegar.
Or some people add a few drops of citronella to it.

I read somewhere Detol mixed with water was good have tried it on Kirstie and it seems to have helped. Will be using it again next year we might even have a mane. I just put it in an old fly spray bottle.

Hi Ladyluck i used dettol on a cob with sweetitch at diluted strengh for cuts and it seemed to soothe his skin but wouldnt say it kept flys away not with him anyway .he was a smelly greasy beast lol that had to be washed regular. ive a welsh pony that has sweetitch aswell wears a fly rug and washed regular that seems to work for him he never needs fly spray .i wash him with aloevera shampoo. Its my arab thats just getting eaten alive at minute dont really want to rug her coz nice to have a break from rugs but might consider it .she had a huge wood wasp sucking her neck.but this fly spray i made seems to be keepin them off :)

Citronella has been discussed on here, if you do an AL search, and if I remember correctly not all favourably.
