Does anyone share your horse in return for a contribution of keep? Has the experience been the best or worst thing you have done? What did you expect from the sharer?

Hi
I had a lovely sharer for Shida. She had her every Thursday and paid £10 and also did the chores that day. If she rode an extra day she would pay £5 and if I went on holiday she looked after her and rode as much as she liked without paying anything. It worked brilliantly for me but I think good ones are quite hard to find. Might see if I can get one for Beau later on but not yet.

I had a friend who rode one of my two horses. Sometimes we would ride together and at other times she went out on her own. She paid for the shoes on the mare she rode which was a big help. It worked well for us and like joanna piana's sharer, she stood in to look after the two when I was away.

I have a couple of girls who come and ride out WITH me. Not sharers as such - they just help ride. I don't charge them, but just ask that they give me a hand with the poopicking on their days. One girl helped looked after them when I was away so I'm taking us all to do a sponsored ride as a thank you.

I'm very precious about Marygold and don't want anyone taking her out on her own, so the current deal works well for all of us!

I used to have a sharer for my mare (non Arab)I had known her for years as she shared Fen with me before I bought her, after a few years she felt she couldn't manage to ride anymore she must have been almost 70 when she gave up bless her, I then had a young girl of 15 come and ride on Saturday's but she always rode out with me or had a lesson so it worked out fine.
I wouldn't get a sharer for Arabi although I would let people I know ride him, just because I feel he is too precious to me and I just wouldn't want a stranger riding him on there own, but I know many people that have found some really good reliable sharers and it really works for them.
I was talking to a friend a few weeks back and they placed an advert on a website for a sharer and two of them that turned up clearly couldn't ride, one did say to her that she thought she would learn once she had found something to share which we found quite funny. good luck with whatever you decide.

I have a good sharer for my girl. She pays for her shoes and rides when I don't and looks after her when I'm away. I can't ride every day as I have 2 children so it is a big help to me, otherwise she would get fizzy. She also enjoys jumping so my mare is starting to go to competitions which she enjoys. I think you just need to find the right person, someone you can trust with your horse.

i have a sharer for my boy(non arab),it's working well, her mum has her horse in the joining field and stable to mine,so she's always there when her daughter's doing anything with mine, they ride together as well and the daughter is going to have lessons with the instructor i have lessons with, they contribute to my boy up keep,a set amount a week and they have him 3 days a week, and understand if it's wet etc and they cant ride.they do full duties on the days they have him.

i did have a different sharer who talked a good talk but didn't walk the walk, she lasted 6 days.she was the type who agreed with everything i said/asked and then didn't pull her weight with duties, plus her riding was no where near the standard i had been told it was as well.
