Who would have thought today would be the day of so many mixed emotions. First a huge happy birthday to my wonderful hubbi, without him life would be so dull!!! Secondly the wonderful joy we had this morning of Veruchka producing her first beautiful daughter by Master Design – she is deffo quite exquisite and Veruchka is such a wonderful, caring mum.
BUT then horror struck and a call from my neighbour proved the nightmare we never thought we’d see. Ponies in a nearby field – who were supposedly being monitored by the RSPCA and we found a DEAD pony in the brook!!! This pony was supposed to have been monitored by the RSPCA for laminitis – well they ain’t monitored it for a few days because it must have been DEAD in the brook for more than two days – especially finding it in that condition – bloated so much, covered in flies etc etc – not a pretty sight, believe me.
We have repeatedly called the RSPCA to get someone to get back in touch with us – and now after more than ten hours – no reply. So tell me where is the caring RSPCA?? Not only that – the police have been called – no one bothered to come and check. The BHS are fearful to send officers to the site because of abuse and attack. I thought the law had been changed to help the vulnerable horses etc – doesn’t seem so tonight after this poor pony had to not only suffer laminitis but that no-one had the care or thought to try and save it. I will NEVER EVER give any donation or praise to the RSPCA again – they are truly a total waste of space and are only ever concerned about getting their name in lights and trying to get money out of people. They are worse than the people abusing the animals !!!

Sounds a real nightmare Judith. You should call the local paper and even one of the nationals. This kind of thing must become a higher priority, not only for the RSPCA but the local authorities and the police. This kind of neglect and cruelty can't be allowed to continue.

Poor, poor horse. It should have never suffered like that.

Agree with your opinion of the RSPCA - complete waste of time! Should they not be shown up in the "media" about this incident Jude ??
One can imagine their response, a bit like Social Services after yet another baby has been neglected/murdered by it's no-hope, useless parent,
what is it they always say "Lessons have been learnt"

Totally disgraceful - quite why they still retain the title "Royal Society" I will never understand.

Elaine.

Poor, poor pony. Must admit I have had serious doubts about the RSPCA for a very long time, and they are not the first people I would contact if I was concerned about an animal's welfare.

I have completely lost any respect for the RSPCA; this is just another (shocking) example of their incompetence. They only seem interested in the cases where they can gain the conviction of the owner/keeper, otherwise they don't seem to care.

Poor pony, thankfully no longer suffering, but shame on the RSPCA for allowing it to die in such an horrific way

Edited to say: Congratulations on your new arrival and how lovely that you appreciate your OH

The RSPCA are a waste of space, full stop.

In my experience they won't get involved if it means they actually have to DO something.

Can't understand why anyone still supports them.

Totally agree with your opinion of the RSPCA. I was told years ago to get the RSPCA to action tell them the local paper will be there with a photographer and reporter!! Poor pony. Congratulations on your new arrival.

Congratulations on your arrival! The whole pony experience must have put a real downer on your day - poor pony.
The RSPCA are useless, WHW (or ILPH) are not much better!

Like I said on your FB the RSPCA I phoned didnt think Laminitis was an emergency case and I was told they would contact me in 4 - 6 weeks!! Told them not to bother. Lucikly the ILPH (WHW) came out the next morning and got it all sorted out.

btw, it isnt the case Jude is going on about its another case about me finding a pony suffering the most awful Laminitis and had been left (I foundout later) for 2 weeks whilst the owner went on holiday!!

I don't have any personal experience with the RSPCA, but a couple of weeks ago my friend was walking by the river in our loceal town and saw a female duck being attacked by about 10 males. The were holding her under the water and had completely ripped the top of her scalp off so that you could see her skull. My friend managed to get the males off her and took the duck home. She rang the RSPCA, and that night they came from Loughborough (to Bakewell, Derbyshire) to pick up the duck. A round trip journey of over two hours. Maybe they are not all bad, it is just in some areas - another postcode lottery!

Firstly, huge congratulations on your filly!

I do wonder about the RSPCA, I called them a few years ago regarding some neglected ponies, they did not turn up, did not call, despite me following up my first enquiry. I then called Redwings who came the next day!!

It makes you wonder about Spindles Farm! Locals said they called the RSPCA many times before.....

Well its been 24hours now and still NO phone call from RSPCA. My blood boils when I see them all praising themselves on tv and in Horse & Hound taking ALL the bl credit for saving those horses at Spindles Farm. Yes I bet the neighbours could tell a different story.

For heavens sake they were supposed to be monitoring this pony - they obviously thought it was not a high priority.

I am going to write a suitable letter to them and enclose photographs and hey Lyndilou feel free to post on any other website - doubt they'd want to know about my hubbies birthday tho!!!

Btw the pony was dragged out of the brook last night and has disappeared - we think we know how it left the site but dunno where it has ended up.

Thanks for you good wishes re the filly - she is lovely and I will try and get some photos.

Congrats on Veruchka's new baby girl

So sorry to hear about this. Having had my own experiences with the RSPCA in my area turning a blind eye to ponies being ill treated, nothing that they fail to do surprises me. Poor pony having to suffer like that, makes me so cross. They'll will undoubtedly make the proverbial excuses in reply to your letter

Just realised that I put on FB congrats to Boch's new baby, have just realised it Veruchka (sorry)
