Thinking of leasing my mare out to be a broodmare, can you tell me what is involved.
Is it like a loan were they pay for there keep
Do you charge for leasing the mare
Is it usually until weaned then the mare returns

We leased a mare and she stayed with her owner and we paid a set price, it has worked beautifully, we have a beautiful filly without any stress or sleepless nights and they had the security of the mare staying at home. It is your choice how you want to do it .

My mare died on loan; despite knowing that she had previously had foaling problems the loanee was too lazy to check her at night.

She died the most dreadful death all on her own with the foal stuck and no one to help her. I won't go into details, it is too awful, but I still have nightmares about it.

Please be very careful where she goes. I have loaned several times previously and it has all worked very well but I will never get over what happened to Charm. She was my mare of a lifetime, a 3/4 sister to Crusader and my most valuable mare. there was no need for her to have died; if the loanee had been checking her she could have been saved instead of dying the dreadful death she did.

Oh Barbara that is so awful. Poor you and poor Charm.

Sorry cant help you with your dilemma Rasaljadi. I'm too scared to breed from any of mine in case I lose them, so I certainly wouldnt trust anyone else to do it for me. Let us know what you decide to do.
