My mare is by Sherfah (Hanif), & I know she was her 9th foal. I know what happened to her full brother (foal 8), but not the others, who I believe many were fathered by Zourrack. Does anyone else out there have any Sherfah children? My girl is 13 now, so the rest would be in their late teens early 20's. Would just love to know what her other kids have got up to.

Hi Here is what I can find: Name Number Foaled Gender Color Sire SAHARA EMIR AHSB*17062 1985 Stallion Grey SAHARA DUKE SHALHAM AHSB*19516 1986 Stallion Bay ALHAMBRA SHERNIAH AHSB*19517 1987 Mare Grey ZOURRAK SHERIMAH AHSB*19518 1988 Mare Chestnut IMRAH SHAMAL IBN ZOURRAK AHSB*24071 1992 Stallion Grey ZOURRAK SHARIK IBN KHAIROH AHSB*28880 1996 Stallion Chestnut KHAIRHO CLUTHA AHSB*29656 1997 Mare Grey KHAIRHO
It's surprising that Clutha is the only one that has been bred from! (That's pure bred)
As most were bred by the Logans, I am guessing that some were used for endurance?
How is your filly? Becky |

Hi Beccy,
Thanks for that, it's lovely to have some names. I know about Sharik, Clutha's brother (rip). Given Sherfahs breeding (I think she came from Imperial as she is by Hanif), that she was 100% Crabbet & she was put to some very nice husbands from your info, you'd hope her progeny would be good enough to breed from. I guess Clutha will have to fly the flag for her in her own small way. Two years ago she gave me a lovely filly Arian Dawn, aka Pip (97.87%) by the 100% stallion Indian Idyll (Silvern Idyll x Indian Golddust). She is a treasure like her mum, & hopefully a future endurance horse for me. In a few years (haven't the space or money at the moment) I hope to breed from Clutha again. I have bought some frozen semen from America & am in the process of shipping it over now. It is a homozygous black 15.3hh stallion called Blacklord Falkhan (by Blacklord Arabi), who I reckon to be about 60+% Crabbet, so the resulting foal should be over 70%. I'm hopeful this will also give me another lovely endurance horse. Clutha is an excellent mum (had a very experienced example to learn from), so I'm sure she'd love some more foals when she stops competing. After Falkhan I would go back to very high % hubbies (love African Emir, would also like another by Indian Idyll, then there are the Marbon boys, too much choice).
Hopefully Pip will be at Malvern this year (qualified at Bicton last year but it was too close to Malvern & we did have time to arrange things). If your there you must come give the little squidger a hug! Can't miss her, looks just like her dad but with a flaxen mane. |
