Just to catch up....
Some of you may remember that some 15 months ago a mare I bred was sold to a Kuwaiti Dealer called Hamied by her then owners with not so much a second thought for her welfare. With the help of a very good friend (Karen D) I finally tracked her down about three months ago, her new owner in Kuwait informed me that he bought her from a 'businessman' in February 2009 (confirming that she was sold by Hamied around a month or so after landing in Kuwait!!). The new owner also told me that she was now pregnant.
I'm please to say that this week she produced a Chestnut filly and as far as I know all is well with mother and baby. I am yet to hear from her owner in Kuwait, my information is 'second-hand' from a friend of the new owner, also in Kuwait, so I have emailed asking if all is well and if he could send me some photo's.
I will post these as soon as I get them
I have or should I say Storm has been VERY LUCKY so far, I am told some of the other mares have not been so lucky since being shipped to Kuwait

How wonderful that you've tracked her down and that all is well. So sad though for the other mares. There was a mare I was interested in a few years back and I was unable to get my money out quick enough. She is related to my stallion and she was sold for much less than she was advertised. I felt so sad for her.
Delighted such a happy outcome for you. |

Im so happy to hear that the mare you bred is safe and well and now a mummy!
I have to say though that i have sold horses, not arabian but thoroughbred racehorses, to Kuwait before. Not through a businessman or dealer but directly to the new owner and they are living the life of luxury out there. So it certainly isnt all bad for every horse that gets exported out there. I have been and seen it for myself first hand and the owners out there, that i have met, have been very passionate about their horses. I am aware that some of the horses are not so lucky, but no different to what can happen in any other country. This country included!!
I hope you continue to receive good news about her

I remember your story and all the anguish Angel. It sounds as though Storm was one of the lucky ones, she was (is) beautiful. Lets hope your friend is right and that mother and baby are happy and well. Please keep us updated - and photos would be great x |

So pleased, after the nightmare you went through it is great that Storm appears to be happy and well. I really felt for you as I was approached to sell some of my SE mares, even told they would be going to the royal stables and I would be kept updated and get photos etc; yeah, right!!!! Fortunately I realised that all was not as was being told to me and I still have my mares and peace of mind.

I agree Alethea, there are some wonderful people in Kuwait who do look after their horses like royalty and treat them accordingly, I have meet some very nice Kuwaiti people who have helped me on my journey to find Storm and will always remain grateful to them One is actually another dealer BUT he doesn't hide the fact and is a very nice man
I would just like to also point out that most of the thoroughbreds do not have a very nice life in Kuwait and I am happy to provide some very upsetting photos of them dumped outside the race track dead with their leg bandages and head collars still on! Others are still continued to be raced even though they have visably broken down....
The problem I have is with a man called Hamied (the elusive Desert moon on here)
I wouldn't have a problem with him if he was honest, and said straight from the start what he was and that the horse you are about to sell him will be sold on when it lands in the desert!! That way you can make an informed choice.
There are people here that I know have sold to him, knowing he was a dealer and that their filly/mare was going to be re-sold, that's their choice, not something I would ever consider, I would put mine on permanent loan or last resort have them shot if I didn't want them rather than sell to Hamied for an uncertain future!
Sorry to say but there are still people on here who are niave enough to think they are being head-hunted for their 'top class' arabian, who has never won a class let alone been overall show champion at Malvern! Do these people really think that £2000 is the going rate for a top quality World Class arab like Pianissima for example?
Storm seems to be the lucky one at the moment where this dealer is concerned. He bought her from her then owner, who knew exactly where she would end up, and then sold her again some 4-6 weeks after she got to Kuwait (I assume the wait was because they had to apply for her export papers as they didn't do so before she left the UK).
Lucky for Storm she seems to have found a good home.....Unlucky for some of the other fillies/mares, I'm informed by someone in Kuwait that some did get sick and die!
I will not give up warning people about Hamied until he does the right thing and starts telling sellers the truth about what his intentions are with these fillies and mares that he is still trying to buy in the UK.
I will leave you with this thought....
I know times are hard, believe me I know better than most at the minute, but when it comes to this particular dealer isn't it better to sell to a home in the uk that can be checked out to make sure it is safe and good enough for £1000, than to sell to him for £2000 and an uncertain future, possibly death?
As breeders/owners don't we at least owe that to our filly or mare?
NB - A British woman is 'working' with him so be careful... If you have someone offering you £2000 or less for your female arabian and her name begins with 'A' be very wary as to where you horse will really end up |

So glad you managed to track her down Angel and that she has a nice life, unlike some of the others with an uncertain future.
I dont sell so it has nothing to do with me and I only own a gelding but please take note of what Angel is saying it could be you that h e/she visits next time.

Note the comment made by Abdullah at the bottom of this page - http://desertgirlkuwait.blogspot.com/2009/05/surreal.html
In goggle type the following in the search box -
kuwait dead horses desert
I know all countries have animal welfare issues but you don't find loads of dead horses next to the 'July Course' in Newmarket or dumped outside a riding school in the UK! Saying that I have never seen dead horses on the side of the road on the way home from work either!!
In Kuwait this seems to be a common problem if the horses are sold to the 'wrong' people, especially the sort of people who tell lies from the start when attempting to buy a horse from the UK.
How devious can a certain dealer be you ask .... Try getting a British woman to go and buy on their behalf WITHOUT letting the seller know....!!!
If selling to Kuwait make sure your horse is being sold to the right person....... |

I’m so glad you have been reassured about Storm’s welfare. I know of 3 other fillies that went on a shipment with no concern for their future welfare, 1 I would have dearly loved to own :-(. Lets hope most found a good new home like your mare. |

I would just like to point out that the lady working for the Kuwait man whos name begins with an "A" is not me!!
We have obviously been very lucky with tht tb's we have sold to Kuwait. I have seen for myself how well they are doing and they are kept like royalty.
I would never sell a horse to a bad home. I always make sure i know exactly where it is going.

Just to confirm the 'A' is NOT Alethea
Alethea is not to be compaired with the 'low-life scum' who had lied to poor unsuspecting sellers making them think their horse is for her when she KNEW that the filly/mare was going to be shipped TO KUWAIT!!!
Alethea you have been VERY lucky with your thoroughbreds |

Hi Angel,
I am so pleased that your mare has found a lovely home, I know you have been so worried about her!
Hopefully people will take notice of what you have said on here and be extra careful about finding the right home for their horses
