Does anyone know any studs that are holding open days this year? I only get a chance to see horses at shows and would love to see some in a more relaxed setting and, of course, some of the treasures that never go to shows!

Last year we went to Briery Close's Open day at Windermere. Fabulous afternoon. They advertised the open day in the AHS news, so will wait 'til that comes out to see if they are holding one again this year?

We are very happy for people to visit, but in very small groups so you get to meet the horses rather than look from a distance.
Currently 16, from yearlings to ancients, and the majority are 100% Crabbet. 3 foals due here this spring. |

If Vlacq Stud have an Open Day I would recommend you go to see them. All the horses are so relaxed and happy, its an absolute pleasure to be around them.

Many thanks to all who replied and to those who invited me to visit an extra thank you! I always feel that to contact a stud and request a visit is taking a liberty, especially as I have no intention of buying! I'll keep a look out for planed stud open days as suggested. |

I am always happy to show my horses to anyone who wishes to visit me. As you probably know I breed lOO% Crabbets but have a Gucci Russian mare and Old English/Crabbet mare which I bred some time ago and recently bought back; I am hoping there will be 2 to possibly 4 foals born this summer. It is not a big plush stud (far from it) but visitors are always welcome. Marbon Arabians; Near Frome in Somerset. |

I never mind people coming to see the horses so long as they ask in advance as I am a very busy person and work long hours. I also have to cover some weekends at work so am not always available. I am happy to point out the good and bad points of my horses so that people can learn; unlike some who see their horses as perfect! I don't often sell any of my horses so am not the least bothered that anyone just wants to look. They see the horses in their fields just being horses.
I know it is not as special as an open day where it is an "event" and usually a lovely day out but if anyone local wants to see the horses they are very welcome.

flosskins: the open days I've been attending has all been free of charge, actually I've never heard of anyone charging for people to attend to their open day, what I do know of is that some open days ends with a sit down supper, and that normally isn't free.... I would never charge, then again I'm nothing big, so wont have 100+ people at one go... but I do always have hot/cold drinks and some home baked cake. |
