I have 2 boys, 1 Anglo, he's 15.1 and the other is trakehner x Arab and he's (at the moment) 16.1 and only just 5 and STILL growing. Arabs do tend to keep growing until they're about 7yrs, and as others have said do ride bigger than they are!!!! |

As many others have said, they do ride big and are substantial enough to take up your leg. I am about the same height as you and if you look at my sig pics my feet aren't hanging down any further on 14.2hh Garnet than 16hh Red, both PBA. Garnet has also been hacked out by a very long-legged friend (ex Mounted Police, so used to BIG horses) and she never felt underhorsed on her. Smaller ones are easier to groom and rug, cheaper to feed etc, as has already been said. |

Our No. 1 stallion (7) is 15.3, bordering on 16hh. His dam is 15.2hh, sire is 15hh.
Our 17 yr old gelding is 14.1 and when you ride him, he feels like a 16hh horse...they DO ride big and he doesn't look 'tiny' when he has a tall rider onboard.
Most of the rest of the herd are around 14.2/3 - 15.2hh.
2009 filly will probably make 15.2/3hh, as is constantly bum-high as a weanling and also has longer cannon bones than her dam (same dam as stallion, but different sire). |

My purebred SE is 15'3hh, my purebred high % Crabbet endurance horse is 15'1hh, his mum is 14'3hh. I also have an Anglo mare (75%) at 15'1hh and a TBX Andalusian at 16hh.
I've never ridden the 14'3hh mare (only because she was never backed, as her career was as a broodmare, and at the grand old age of 29 I think it's a bit too late to start). However, even though I'm 5'10 1/2 with long legs and about 10.5 stone in weight, I don't look or feel too big on any of mine.
On a different note. (Very tongue in cheek here!) I must strongly disagree with Barbara Gregory. Since when have Arabs produced less poo than other horses? Ooooh, if only that were true! :-)

My advanced endurance gelding is a very wide 15hh. My new boy is full up 16hh with lots of bone but not as wide. Both purebreds. Have to admit to loving the bigger arabs - my big lad is soooo comfy to ride. |

Hi everyone, Rafael is a good 15:3hh at the moment and he is rising 5, he is very substantial in body too. Im sure he will make 16hh by the time he stops growing. His sire (Affirrmed) is 16hh and his dam Raffalynn SRA i think is about 15hh not sure. Obviously Rafa has followed his sire's line for height, grandsire is Magnum Psyche. - Georgina |
