I love the Polish lines, when I found out my first horse was 25% Polish I was really pleased (knowing little about bloodlines at the time). All my horses have some Polish blood, the rest is mostly English and I'd love to increase the amount of Polish blood in some of my future foals. I'd also love a Crabbet mare too, so I could see my breeding diverging (given half a chance - and if I had the space) to the Polish crosses and more towards the Crabbet.
All my mares have Banat in them, as I used Bonanza on my first mare twice and got two fillies. My first horse was by a son of Gehenna which is where her Polish blood came from, and I've now got Shambar who again has Banat as a grandsire. Certainly the first foal I bred, Ash, is very athletic and I'm hoping some of her family might get round to doing something this year to prove they, too, are proper riding horses! (that's as opposed to the field ornaments they seem determined to become). |

Hi Karon, I have a Bonanza son - he's an anglo reg as PBA thou, Quin is 21 this year and I did alot of endurance with him and ODE's, he's retired now but a very happy field onament and baby sitter 
Most of my polish horses have a line to Banat - good performance line

| I think there were only 4 pure bred fillies registered by Bonanza? And I bred two of them - how's taht for luck? In fact I've only bred fillies so far, so am fully expecting to have nothing but colts for my next 20 foals! |

Lisa, Heather, Peg and Victoria, thank you very much for your kind words about Lance. I am very lucky that he has inherited his mother Lalique's fabulous temperament and rideability. She is a most beautiful legend! I had a letter from Andrus's owner (post-Gucci sale) after I bought Lance, and she said Andrus was a favourite riding horse for Paulo Gucci and his stud.
One thing about Polish horses is that they do mature very late. There are plenty of references to this in AL's archives - one I remember was part of Gari Dill Marlow's (Egbert's) famous 'tail female line' thread.
When other Arabs at 2 show much of their future looks and potential, Polish Arabs can look rangy, sometimes quite unattractive or just plain.
But they develop slowly and attain that really majestic elegance around 9 or 10. Then they have the most wonderful looks and demeanour. With Lance, every year that passes makes him (in my biased view) more beautiful - but even more valuable is that each year he is more chilled and happy with everything around him, from traffic to panics happening around him.
I will try to get some of the pictures from that old Polish state stud brochure scanned in so I can post a few on here. They really are the most wonderful Arabs... |

Rosanne - you're so right about them being late developers - even when I bought her at 8 years old she looked more like a pony than an arab.
In the last 2 years she has blossomed into the most beautiful horse!

Thanks Susi, What I enjoyed about that competition was that I didn't have to spend HOURS washing him beforehand (he lives out 24/7)! Mind you, I should have made more of an effort. I think we should give a good impression with our Arabs whenever we can to promote the breed.
These aren't competitions where people need to pay compliments but the Arabs do get loads of great comments. |

Rosanne - They speak plenty well as arabs- maybe the Polish thing of prettyness and sweetness, that people are then surprised when they perform?
Grubby used to, as having Cinny lives out 24/7 and loves rolling - getting them "clean" can sometimes be a challenge!

Our mares are mostly Russian bred, but they all trace back to a wonderful Polish bred stallion, Skowronek, who was Polish, and became, through being sold twice, Crabbet.
Our little one
is 50% Polish from her mothers side, and her mum has been doing wonderful things for tha last two or three years as a veteran in Germany.
She is now 4 going on 5 and we shall back her later this year, but for now she is just a great friend and wonderful mover.
I'll post some more pictures of her later this year when she is out of rugs, so you can see how she has grown. |

My boy Selasphorus ( Algonkwin x Sakuntala ) gets comments about his looks wherever we go. He, like so many Polish is multi talented and apart from competing in dressage and ridden showing classes he is a successful endurance horse of 100 mile in a day level so has a good history of soundness too. Sometimes a bit too clever though

I have the pleasure of having at my yard the Polish stallion Erald his sire the famous Monogramm and his dam the Queen of Poland Emigrantka, he was bred and raced at Michalow state stud Poland, he has been multi champion in hand including HOCON and Midland Arabian Festival, also being a multi champion under saddle including last year British National Novice Champion, he is a horse of a life time has nature to die for, turns out with others and my 10 year old daughter rides him, so for me its Polish arabians all day long, Erald is also CA and Scid clear
I dont know how to put a piccy on you can see him on the results pages.

I too have been blessed with Polish Arabians... I have the last 3 years had polish Arabians, before that i was race riding for a stud that mainly did Russian bloodlines.
I think the Polish horses are one of the few that are bred to do well in any kind of sport... they are bred to preform. Also they have the kindest temper i have ever meet in a horse, kind loving, very intelligent, good confirmation and strong powerful movements.
I had to retire a mare last year, and i lost another, so at the moment i have only got 2 Polish Arabians... well 3 in June as my mare is in foal.
TU Champion is my young stallion, he just turned 3 yesterday, so still needs to fill out and dry out... i bought him when he was 3 months old... and I'm very pleased with what he has turned into so far. he is by multi international champion Beduin (Wojslaw x Bonanka) bred at janow podlaski, and out of champion mare Chopiniana (Chopin x Regina).
Champ has covered to welsh sec B mares last year so he will become a dad in a couple of months.
pictures are from last Marts, so at that time he had just turned 2 years old... he looks a bit more manly now
Then i have the queen, Kwiryna, bred at Michalów state stud... she is by the legendary Pamir (Probat x Parma), and out of Kryza (Enrilo x Klonica) (( same dam line as Kwestura))... she is an outstanding mare, and holds a big place in my heart. she often follows me round the yard, other ppl have dogs i have Kwi
only got pictures with her winter coat....
plan is with time to get another mare... again pure Polish... perhaps i will import from Poland. |

Both my boys have illustrious Polish stallions in their pedigrees: Roger is 6.25% Polish through Grojec (who is the only non Old English/Crabbet horse in his pedigree) and Chips is 12.5% Polish through Banat.
I don't know if Banat was a big horse but I think Grojec was little, not much over 14.0hh I believe.

| I'm so glad I asked about polish arabians! Hearing about the ones you all own and seeing the stunning pictures has been very inspirational. I am looking for a new horse at the moment, and finding one with a healthy dash of "polish" in them sounds like it would be a definite bonus, (although I suspect all arabs carry alot of the same attributes ). Everyone on AL certainly seems to love theirs, whatever the breeding! |
