Use a snaffle bridle for a restricted class? My horse really doesn't like his double bridle. He's been wearing it for a while now and just doesn't seem to be happy in it.

Thanks..

Anne

Thanks for your reply. He's in a Pelham but he's finding all really heavy and backing off.

Hi Anne - I have had success with Sprenger bits. There used to be a company you could try before you buy. I prefer to use their bits personally as they are more 'arab' mouth sized.

Mine are in Neue Schule pelhams with lozenge, with the same mouthpiece as their usual snaffle, and leather curb strap. They seem to adjust to the change with no problems. They're expensive new but I found mine used on Ebay. Are you using a jointed pelham? Try one with the same mouthpiece as you usually use.

maybe have a word with fylde saddlery about making a much lighter pelham for you, i know they have tailor made a few bits for various people who just cant quite find the right bit for their horse/pony. im going to see them this weekend about one for my sec b, who only is very fussy about what goes in her mouth. xx

Have you tried using a Pelham with the same mouth piece as your snaffle either with a leather curb chain or even taking off the curb chain hooks off
