poor poor mare She looks so content now in her new home and she has such a pretty head. I am looking forward to hearing how she progresses and congratulations on taking her on. She will be a stunner when she gets back to health. Well done all involved it is such a bad state of affairs when beautiful faithful horses ended up like this |

Poor mare. I just hate this sort of thing. She looks so sad, but I'm sure she will blossom with feeding, love and kindness.
I've done this myself with a friend and we gave an old mare 2 happy years extra to her life. She absolutely blossomed once she started to trust us. She needed a lot done, but it was well worth it.
All the best. |

Poor lady, I'm sure with some tlc she will blossom and thankfully she is now away from starvation and harm.
Cate, I agree, we've all had these kind of experiences and know that with care and correct management they definitely blossom
Well done for rescuing this dear lady. |

Poor horse I really don't know how people can live with themselves knowing they have left an animal in the state, you are truly a hero for saving her you deserve a medal for what you have done, please keep us updated on her progress. |

I have only just read this, so glad you found her and don't apologise for the "makeshift stable". I am sure she doesn't care what her stable is like so long as it is safe and warm and has some food and hay in it.
Please post pictures of her when she is looking better.

Have found it so hard to post on here, with everything going on around the world with horses, and yet to see this beautiful, well respected mare in this condition. What is going on...and yes, if there is an AHS charity should'nt they be involved even now? |

[b][b]WHO DOES SHE BELONG TO?[ I really think that this mare is so poor that despite everyone's best intentions things could go very wrong. In order to protect the person who is keeping her at the moment I wonder if we should all agree that the prime concern is that she sees a vet NOW and not next week when smiler comes to see her. I would hate to see anyone falling foul of the animal welfare bill. I am sure that the cost of an initial consultation could be covered by monies collected so far. This is more important than transport to anywhere at this stage. I know that the person keeping her wants her to see a vet ASAP and they are the one that has put themselves out the most so far |

Got to agree with you there Jackie, time is of the essence here and the sooner she gets started on any treatment she may need the better. Every day counts with our precious golden oldies.
When Precious and I rescued Shulay Montana, she looked very similar in condition to this little mare. My vet came out the next day and ran some blood tests, they picked up that she had a 'parasite' that responded really well to cattle wormer. I couldn't believe the difference in her after just once week of being treated.
Fingers crossed that everything goes ok for her, she has the sweetest face.

I hope that no one thinks I am trying to sismiss all the effort put in by Smiler in holding the collection, or the fact that she was and still is willing to offer a home for this Gal. It's just that I don't think any of us expected her to be this bad, and in my mind, priorities have changed from transport to medical attention |

Just to let everyone know i have contacted everyone who has donated to this mare by pm earlier today and have kept people up to date with things going on
my biggest concern is this mares health which is why i bought the mare when navaho said she was not what she wanted fair enough i have also told vicky by pm and txt that i want the mare to see a vet before travelling too and have asked vicky to let me know a good time for vet etc and vets phone number so i can talk to him , but i dont think its to much to want to be involved in this process concidering she is mine and i dont want anything to happen to her like everyone else she is my upmost concern
if by anychance i have missed anyone who did donate please pm me |

I am not doubting what you say, but in the spirit of openness and clarification for all those who have donated, can I ask if you are the sole owner of the horse ad how much you paid, and vicky can you confirm this please? I ask this because this is not what anyone was expecting, yes of course you have the right to be involved but you must be able to see that this mare is not fit to travel so far, and it takes as long as it takes |

as to anyone one else who donated thats between me and them and as said i have pm'd them all explaining whats happening
as ive also said in previous posts i have asked vicky to arrange a vet visit and am waiting her reply i really dont know what the problem is jackie i do think if you want to know details then pm's would be more appropriate |

No it has to be open and transparent. I have no doubts about your integrity at all, so, if we are looking at it proportionately then I own a fifth. So I would like my fifth of Paris to recover and see a vet before she travels so far. I don't care who arranges this. I want her in the best place as much as you. At first I thought that a trip to live in the NF was the best for her, but that is before I saw what state she was in, no criticism of you at all. Smiler, as kind as your intentions are I do not think she is well enough to make the journey and needs to find sanctury closer. That is the be all and end all of it. People donated for her transport to sanctuary. We need to fund her care and rehab before she makes any journeys

As someone who has donated a substantial amount to help Smiler to rescue this mare, I would just like to say I am appalled at the tone of some recent posts on this thread, and I agree that pm's would be more appropriate. The rescue of this mare has been a wonderful thing, please do not spoil it by descending into insinuations of wrongdoing. |

I have no wish for this to become a public slanging match but sadly it seems to be ending up that way! Kim you did not want Paris to see a vet before traveling as you said you wanted her to see your own vet, it was only because ive actually pushed the point that you agreed to it. You are also now insisting n being here when she is vetted, which is fair enough, but i dont understand why you would want to spend £50-£100 on fuel (ive no idea what you drive sorry) getting here when that money could be spent on Paris or another one of your rescues. & secondly you know full well the mare is not soley yours, you have joint ownership (though as far as im concerned she belongs to everyone on AL), i know this because i received money from another member towards buying her. We bought Paris for the grand sum of £150, £120 of which i recived from you Kim (which i was told was donated money) via bank transfer & the other £30 via donation from someone else. Im sorry to everyone that this seems to be spiralling into such a mess, my only concern is & always has been Paris' welfare & nothing else. I actually wish i had bought her myself at the moment in time.

A public collection should be open and subject to accountability. I know this because my job is as a licensing officer, (pubs, clubs, gambling establishments, sexual entertainment venues, small lotteries and Public collections) I have absolutely NO DOUBT and am not trying to suggest anything apart from the best intentions of everyone who donated to the rescue of this mare. In fact, to assure everyone that this mare will receive nothing but first class care at New Forest Animal Rescue I have today submitted a FOI request to the new Forest District Council asking them for a report on the sanctuary, regarding any concerns or complaints they may have had and I expect them to send a NIL return So, hopefully Paris will head south when she is stronger. The point is she needs to be stronger, and see a vet NOW or Vicky may find herself in breech of the Animal Welfare bill for witholding veterinary treatment. What is so wrong with that? If all is well with the mare I see no reason why she should not head south. I just think that the monies collected should be put to more immediate use. Please do not take this personally, but this old girl needs more than we thought |
