Just seen on H&H forum there is an Arab mare advertised on Horsemart, listed as Paris, allrounder/ex racehorse. She is in Powys, the owner thinks she is 20 but she is 27 this year. She looks poor and sad. Is there anyone nearer that can offer some help/support for this mare as I am too far away. Well overpriced!

My God, I have just looked at this advert and it has left me in tears! That poor little mare, so thin and all tacked up to be ridden! She reminds me of how Montana looked when I bought her. If I didn't already have a rescue I would without a doubt have her but just can't afford another one. Really hope somebody sees this and takes pity but her asking price of £1200 actually beggars belief!!!

I saw this last night too. I was horrified. The owner thinks she is 'stunning' and not seeing the lack of condition. I sent her an email and she has telephoned me this morning. The owner sounds innocent. She bought this mare freom the riding school and she is still kept there at livery. I was n ot the first to be concerned about her condition, she has had a few people contacting her telling her that the mare needs help. Unfortunately she is not close to the stables and is too inexperienced to sort this out herself. I have suggested that she cuts her losses and concentrate on getting a good home. She realises now that the stables saw her coming as she paid a lot more for the mare last year!
I am still stuck on my hill today. As soon as I can get out I will try to see her. She is about an hour away from me near Brecon. Don't know if I should try to contact the stables as it might make things worse.
Someone posted this last night and then the thread disappeared. Was it because of the adverrtising content? I suggested last night that we try to raise a rescue fund here on AL, but on reflection that would probably encourage other people to sell their charity cases on line. Lynda |

Heartbreaking it would be kinder to put this poor mare down than leave her open to abuse, what the hell is wrong with people!!! no bloody wonder she is quiet on the roads!!! she would be in her nineties in human years!!! God i am so livid!!!! talk about wringing as much as you can out of a horse!!!I wish i could win the lotto and i would take all these poor unwanted old dears in. |

I think the ad has been changed as now showing as a 26yr old (although says 27 in the description) and just a head shot!
I am sorry, but I don't think the owner can be as niave and innocent as made out, as she has been contacted and informed by several people that the horse is underweight, so what does she do? Change the picture?
I understand she paid more money for the horse than she is asking for it, but she won't get it and surely she owes this mare a chance? I really don't know what can be done for the best other than asking the charities to get involved to persuade her to let this poor mare go free to a good home - if I had the land I would go and get her tomorrow! |

Pasha, I can see that you are concerned about this mare, but I feel a bit 'got at' for my post. I am trying to do what I can and will try to make contact with a rescue centre. I was not trying to defend this owner, just trying to be positive and open minded. She certainly did not mention to me that the mare is older than stated in the original advert which does make me more suspicious. |

Sorry Lynda I wasn't getting at you, I think what you've done is fantastic! I was trying to make the point that although she has been contacted by well meaning people i.e. yourself and given a bit of a sob story, to me it doesn't sound as though she is as naive and genuine as she makes out - given the fact she has changed the advert and the line at the bottom.... IMO she is trying to get what she can for this mare rather than the priority being a good home for her!
I hope I am totally wrong and the owner is just trying to dissuade the meat man and timewasters! |

Hi all
My original post was removed as I had put a link to the ad - I didn't realise that this was a problem but having seen faymouse's original post here I now see how we need to go about geting the message over in a better way than via a commercial link - sorry admin :o/
Fingers crossed that this little mare lands on her feet. |

Perhaps someone could contact a rescue centre? SWHP (Jenny Macgregor)is in Monmouth their contact details are 01600 750233 or 07787 125241 swhp@swhp.co.uk or HAPPA at Tintern, can't remember their number. Maybe a joint visit could be arranged so the owner wouldn't be intimidated & the mare could be signed over. I wish I could afford to buy her. |

I haven't emailed her as she has already been contacted by others and I don't want to hound her if she is genuine - what can be done? Now that the advert has gone, we cannot send that to one of the charities as something for them to go on.
If someone could get to see her in the flesh (as we don't know when the photo was taken) and see for themseleves maybe? |

If she was nearer to me I'd offer a couple of hundred for her, just to give her a home for her last years. She looks so sweet in the picture that I saw, it's such a shame to be selling on such an old mare. |

Good luck Lynda, please let us know how you get on or if there is anything we can do - I would happily donate to a Fund for example if it would help x |
