I don't normally do this, show pics of my own horses.
But today it was different. My lot have been barn bound for a week and this is the first day out. All behaved really well, just the silly mares got excited, but Montoya was and still is shocked!!
Montoya has never seen snow like this before!
My three mares next to him. The chestnut is due to foal 29th January!!
Montoya loves snow!
The black thing is my dog!
I think Monty is fed up with the dog, his face!
The face of an Angel.!

My chestnut mare, G.Fantastica was covered in a snowstorm last spring!! What was I thinking of? Last time I bred an early foal was over ten years ago. I have a secret weapon, lovely foal rugs that are lined with flectalon (sp?) they are thin strips of metallic stuff the same as Astronauts line their spacesuits with, so it reflects heat back to baby. Also we have a heat lamp and a large deep straw bedded stable. I am not going to cover early again, as we can't trust our winter weather now.
I really do admire all of you that live in Scotland. I love the country but it is too cold for me. How you all manage with your horses is amazing, I love read about your trials on here. We are seriously thinking of moving somewhere warmer!! |

Flectalon rugs are brilliant - they saved my oldest's life when she was born as she was so ill.
Lovely pics, Sue. I hope the snow is gone by the time your foal arrives! |

Lovely to see montoya and the mares out in the snow. His colour looks even more striking against the white stuff. |

Monty says thank you so do I.
Possibly not the best pictures of him at the moment, dirty mane and tail and the horrid crew cut bridle path. I wanted to let it grow out but we have decided to have a go at Morselle this year so his mane will get shaved again at Bluebell. I can't reach anymore.

Angel Face Monty - what a handsome chap !!!!!!!!!
Sue - where did you buy your foal rug lined with flectalon? I have a really tiny one, brand new - just waiting for the end of Feb or maybe earlier
I really love all the pics that are being put up - whenever I see LYNDILOU has posted I immediately have a look as she takes wonderful photos too - it all looks so picturesque but I can't wait for the Spring and warm sunny days.

Lovely pictures Sue, they look very happy - you are lucky to get them out. Unfortunatley we have ice / very slippery ground under the snow and daren't put them out, so they are all being exercised in the school each day. The local vets said they have put 6 horses down this week from injuries caused by weather (broken bones etc), but the thaw appears to be starting fingers crossed! |

Elaine, the foal rugs came from a lady who made them working from home in Taunton! I'll let you know their name off line (advertising) It was nearly 10 years ago when I bought them so maybe she isn't there now? I have three, so perhaps you could borrow one for your 'special' early baby
We were lucky to find a bag of salt and made a good path to the paddocks. The snow is soft and it feels very squishy under foot now, so we just had to get them out today. I understand why people worry. I do. We are forecast heavy snow tomorrow so at least they have all had a good roll today. Might push my baby along!!
Lisa , you have gone over to the dark side.......Welsh cobs? (I do like them!!) come back to us quick!!! |
