Does anyone know how you can get to watch your foaling cameras remotely via the internet? Like Mare Stare etc?

We have cctv, but it would be ideal if we could access from the home pc in the days leading up to foaling before sitting with the monitor at the yard when it is imminent!

It really depends on your setup and even the cctv system you have. Not experienced with cctv systems, but to get the video on the internet, you will have to hook up the video signal to a computer connected to the internet, that then could send the video data to a "streaming server". Another way would be to send the video signal wirelessly to a place where a computer was located and then watch the video in that computer or stream it from there...
Probably none of this makes much sense, because if you could get the video to a computer your problem would be solved, since it seems you just want to see the video yourself and not to broadcast it to the internet

There are many possibilities, all depending from your particular circumstances. Probably even your CCTV solution provider could expand it to achieve your purpose.

Thanks for the reply Rui. I should perhaps expain more fully The system is for the TB stud OH works on, the cctv goes to a monitor into the sitting up room and also to the owners house about 100yds from stable yard. To save OH spending so much time sat in a tiny room in the freezing temps or making countless trips doen to the yard (5 mins each way in the car)but avoid missing any changes we thought it would be a good idea to watch from home like the Rollestone cams. Get the pics to Owners computer, his computer sends it to internet, we access internet page and watch from home, easy! or so we thought...

Wireless would not be suitable as the yard is made of granite, as is the owners house. Getting a mobile phone signal can be tricky so I guess internet signal would be awkward too.

It is frustrating, we can get the pictures from the stables to a monitor sat next to a pc, but can't get the next stage on! CCTV system is about 15-20 yrs old so that is probably not going to help either!

Ok, I understand the setup better, now. Do you have anyway to get the video to the owner's computer now?

I guess that would be the first thing to solve, then. Not sure wether the current monitor is near the computer or not. If not, maybe a wireless transmiter to get it "there", or get some sort of video spliter and get video there throu cable.. Once you'd get the video near the computer, then you would need a video capture board to get the video into the computer and then software to stream it to the internet. There are both free software and services to stream live video.

Well you will need to get that signal to the computer. Likely you could even connect it directly to the computer and get rid of the monitor, since the video could be visualized in the computer. You will need to buy a video capturing board for the computer.
Probably going to an electronics shop or computer shop could be good to find a solution for this.

Once that is done, as I said there are free solutions for live streaming (I can PM you a couple links that seem interesting).

Thanks for your help Rui. Please could you pm those links. I will ask them to try plugging the cctv output directly into the pc, though I assume they will need a usb adaptor. would the computer still need a video capture board for that?

We did ask about all of this in PC World on sunday but they seemed stumped

The cctv output will be a video cable, so you will need a video capture board and it will be that board that you will connect the video cable to. So you better check what video cable type you have an buy a video capture board that has a connector to accept your video cable.

I'm afraid I am not much up to date on the current generation of video capture boards, but I expect you to to be able to find a few that will connect using usb. It's important to ensure that will support your existing video cable, or you may have to buy a converter.

I will PM you the links now.

I lost all of the image files from September 2007 to December 2008 by installing a CCTV card in my computer without completely backing up first. Be careful if you instal a CCTV card yourself!!

Not a fan of installing CCTV cards...
