Does anyone know of any offspring of this stallion please?
In 1901 Puddumgee was in the ownership of Mrs Vaughan-Pryse-Rice of Llwynbrain, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire.
Reg Vol VII.Polo Pony and Riding Pony Stud Book 14.1, brown-bay, white star and (unusually) two fore fetlocks white.
Won 20 races in India in 1893-1894 (from 3 furlongs to 3 miles!).
Described as an Arab-imported by the late Leut.J.L.Sewart, 7th Hussars from india.

Thinking about pony racing and early West Wales influence on our top riding ponies.

Hi, If its a typo error and should read Lt.Col.P D Stewart DSO, then he is the same officer who imported CROSBIE to GB.( Its says about Crosbie, that he was purchased after brought to Abassia.)Just a long shot...

Sounds interesting, another one that got away and arrived in England, another possible for the remounts or the Ahmednager Stud. What years did the VII cover.

I don't have the early books and I have not seen or come accross Puddumgee (Pudumgee) yet. There is plenty to read on the Queens 7th Hussairs and I'm so pleased he and Leut.J L Sewart?? got back safe sound to England.Hope he enjoyed his life in Llwynbrain.

This sounds like another import thats missed the Crabbet files.

Keep at it, on the Welsh Pony Flapping front.
Lets hope Lynda will look in her book on India for us.
Cheers Sue

Yes-checked-says Puddumgee was imported by Lieut J.L. Stewart. Looks like Puddumgee was registered in 1901 by the owners at that time who lived at Llandovery-the next market town to Llandeilo. As he won his first race in 1892 he was likely to have reached double figures in age when registered.
Vol VII covers 1901-1902.

Hi, Added him to allbreeds for future reference. Is VII the NPS or something else ??.
(Crosbie's(born 1908) reference, Lt.Col P D Stewart DSO, was at Chadhurst, Kineton,Warwickshire. wonder if it was the same family.)

Hollyland..this sounds as if it could be our horse....Although th mare is Grey.. I reckon she was by a Grey Arab.. in the area at that time...Cheers Sue..

Is Carmarthenshire South Wales or West Wales... says she was a legand in South Wales Flapping Races.

Wonder if there is any entries or records off offsprings for this horse or the other Arab Imports... should be some where... any clue's anyone..

Anyone got these early NPS stud books and can check out this horse and any offsprings entered..Please
Thanks Sue

Sahara (Grey Arab born 1908~ import. all his foals were Grey) spent two seasons in Carmarthen and Brecon and was reported to to be used by the local farmers to cover mares, including producing valuable polo ponies. In 1919 he was sold to Denis Aldridge (Quorm Hunt). Mrs Inge and Lord Lonsdale sent mares to him each year.

Now looking for info on the 13.2h Part Bred Welsh mare Sigorietti, said to be a TB - Welsh cross, who won many flapping races for ponies under 13.2h.

Cigarette was a Part Bred Arab (unregistered I think) by an Arab, out of Sigorietti ( who was TB x Welsh - Part Bred Welsh) might be interesting to search for her in the early part bred Welsh).

Cheers Sue
