I am thinking of you, I am sure that you won't get much sleep tonihgt. But a good idea parking your car in front of the stable.
I know exactly what you mean about peole touching your horses without your knowledge. About 9 years ago someone stole the rugs from our horses backs in the field on v.frosty night but worse than losing the rugs (were a birthday present for me) was the thought that someone had been across the field and caught each horse and removed their rugs and as they were quiet horses I am sure they stood like well behaved people and just let them.
I hope that your night passes without incident. |

It sounds like your yard owner is doing everything they can but it might be best asking if they could get some geese these are the best detterant ever if they see strangers they will start which will start the dogs barking and in turn wake the owners ,
i know your worried but is the friends place as well equiped to stop anyone how far from the stables do they live do they have dogs etc ?
i'm thinking of you and hope nothing happens to your babies ! |

CMJ, we sort of inbetween Aylesbury and Milton Keynes, I'll pm you if you want to know more precisely.
Jamana, that is horrible, happened to a friend of mine also ~ stole the rugs from the horses backs, it's just so awful.
Smiler, my friend is lucky she has my dream house. The stables and field are right behind her house, you can barely see them from the road and you would have to go through her electric gate to get onto their drive. There are houses on either side, it really is very secure (or as secure as you can get). She works from home and they have a dog so good as it gets I suppose. Her hubby is quite switched on, it was him who suggested the car in front of the stable so he will have other security ideas I'm sure.
How will I ever sleep? My jaw is grinding and my head pounding, why do we have to love these precious creatures so much!

I think you're very sensible with the extra security - however I would be very wary of padlocking a stable door. What would happen if (god forbid) there was a fire or other emergency and no-one on site had the key/combination to release your horse? I'd definitely padlock/chain/block with cars all the entrance points to the yard but not the actual stable.

The lovely lady who owns the yard has the number, she's sitting up all night with her blunderbuss on her knee .

Hope you had some sleep, it will soon be light and you can plan today. I really feel for you, how dare someone touch your precious horse. I would contact police again to make sure they realise how serious this could be, and also your local Horsewatch, which I think was mentioned. Your YO sounds wonderful. X |

Just seen this how awful my tummy turned over when I read this and could only think if it happened to me with my precious horses sorry selfish I know my heart goes out to you, I slept with my mare once for two weeks as an ex told me he was going to shoot my mare when we broke up and I was terrified my heart goes out to you, but some camera's up, they are really cheap from b&q keep a watchful eye because they have been there and might come back at a later date, big hugs to you it must be an awful worry x |

Hope all is OK this morning. There was a spate of this in Derbyshire a few years ago - it appeared to be linked to a Pagan ritual rather than marking for theft. If your lovely girl is a bit aloof is it likely that she would have stood for a stranger to plait her mane? Pearl is always having to have "plaits" unpicked which are in reality caused by a combination of the wind and her head tossing! I really hope that your mare and foal are safe. |

They are ok this morning thank god.
Just off to clear the stable out at friend's place and try and arrange transport. At least if they are there I can think rationally about what to do next. I so want to stay where I am, perhaps we can juggle fields or something so that mine not so close to road etc.
Poor lady who owns the yard, so horrible for her knowing that someone has been on her land even if it is just a prank or pagan thing.

Hope all ok, I'm in Bellingdon, Bucks ans we have had lots of problems with this just recently! We are lucky our horses are at the house but my bedroom overlokks the lane which had other horses in the fields, I became a peeping tom was so scared. Amazing that we live in a lane that goes nowhere, but all off a sudden strange cars appearing! I went out to 2 on my own, 1 disappeared, the other was a very embarrassed couple who certainly got more than they bargained for having me a 4'11 banging on their car window! Have to say the police were brilliant, came up and drove around the times we had to call them. we also got friendly with our local police woman, who has horses so much more sympathetic... she definately seemed to be around and about more, also dropped in to see us a few times, gave us details to join local details to email...so a lot of people ended up working together, as soon as anything happened the info was shared. I parked my car in front of neighbours field gates, and the routines were changed, staying at yard longer etc. Best of luck, its so scarey, know how you feel. also try to chill though as it wont do you any good... easy to say i know x |

Really? How scary and so time consuming for you!
I've got transport arranged for tomorrow morning if my lovely YO is too exhausted to help me out today so that's good.
We're going to sort out some signs for the gates on Monday etc and see what else can be done. I can think a lot more clearly if they are somewhere else for the time being.

so pleased all is ok this morning. after we had an 'incident' in August we are terrified, and paranoid about security. We have marked ALL the horses rugs with their freeze mark numbers & put signs up on all gates/stables to say ALL horses are micro-chipped & freeze marked. Even though our stables & land are within 5 minutes from home our house is now on the market as we are determined to get a property with the horses outside. Hope all goes well for you. |

Thank you again. Yes land with your own stables is the answer I'm sure.
I've just popped in quickly and now off out to move them to their temporary home. It's all so surreal and I can't really believe that I didn't even know anything 24 hours ago. My lovely YO is very upset and worried about her own horses obviously and she is being so good to me bless her.
I've left the children somewhere, need to retrieve them too!

Well they are safely in their temporary home and I can now breathe a sigh of relief and have a glass or two of wine.
K was a good girl as ever to load and little chap followed without too much trouble. Not exactly the ideal first loading lesson ~ in the near dark, with a panicked owner on the end of the lead but in he went bless him!
So now to research all the security measures that are possible and hope that whoever it was never darkens our door again.
Thank you so much to all the lovely aliners who have rung me offering transport and stables over the last 24 hours ~ wonderful people as ever, thank you!
Jen xx

Print yourself several BIG signs (largest possible print on A4 paper), get them laminated (local stationer should be able to help here) saying your horses are freezemarked & microchipped and put them up around the place. Our Farmkey sign was too tatty to survive another move so that is what we did!
