We are based in Hampshire and we would be interested to hear if there are any Syrian bred stallions that are available for AI. We are aware of at least two in France, which may be available, but I do not know if AI is a possibility? We would be grateful for any help.

Hi Elizabeth,

Yes there are two at the following stud http://www.etalon-arabe.com/ and one at the stud of Haras de la Lizonne http://www.lizonne.com/ they do AI. I am curious why you are interested?? I am planning on going to see the two, I already saw the one at La Lizonne. My mare Lila was bred by Krayaan Dilmun, but did not get in foal, she had cysts in the uterus. I hope to get her in foal next year by him.

Best wishes, Monique

Hi Sue,

No, no, they are Bahraini imports, gifts from the King of Bahrain. Jenny breeds on with these original imports. The Syrians come from Syria, although some of them were Anazeh tribe bred, and so are the Bahrainis from the beginning. The Al Khalifa family split up, and one branch left for Bahrain, the other branch stayed in Saudi. They originate from the Anazeh.
If you read through Jenny's website you can learn a lot about the Bahraini's. Our loan mare is half Irani, they are extremely rare, they are bred in Iran/Persia by different tribes, very interesting stuff to read as well.

We liked horses we saw in Syria on the WAHO tour in 2007, particularly characteristics such as good conformation with excellent shoulders and legs, some lovely heads with large eyes and nostrils. Good tough horses of original type.

What an interesting thread. In the Desert Heritage Magazine VIII n.l4/2009 there are three very interesting articles. First one is The Asil Horse and the Empire of Persia by Monika Savier; Second, Iran's Asil Arabian Horses Today and abut a lady Mary Gharagozlou; Third, Tales of the Asil Horses from Khuzestan Iran by Mary Gharagozlou.

I know you are interested in Syrian, but as Monique (Lila) mentioned Iranian I thought I would post about the articles.

Hi Lila, I'm taking everything your posting on her in.. Just to say I found the Daughterof the wind link very interesting..This info is not generally avaiable to us here.

Also, I was at the Red Dragon 100 miles ride in October and One of Jenny Lee's stallions was there doing the 120Kms ride, It was Jesra. I have just a couple of snaps of him if anyone is interested..They have to be tough to do this ride, as its over Welsh Hills. The speeds for the rides on this day were coming out at 17kmph, over this tough whole course and the underfoot conditions after it rained for the whole week before the ride..

I'm keping my eye on you and these horses your looking at...
Cheers Sue.

Here are two stallions from Iran, they are closely related to our half Iranian mare Katayoun.

Greetings, Monique

Edit to say they are pure Iranian.

Hi Monique,
I've pm'd you the info. Sad time, and worst when I look out and she's not there watching for me, but that's life and we all have to take the rough with the smooth. My old mum of 80 years has found the loss of her very upsetting.

All the best
Love Cate
