I have only just found this post - better late than never ! I know a small amount about Dancing Magic and used him on my first ever pony mare in 1974 and 1975 and she produced a colt and a filly for me (Part-breds). Dancing Magic was senior stallion at Pipers Green Stud in Ottershaw back in the 70's and 80's, owned by Judy and Gerhart Rust. Judy showed him both in-hand and under saddle and used him on her pure-bred mares and TB/Anglo mares. He was a fantastic mover with the sweetest temperament and was my introduction to Arabs way back in 1974 ! One of his sons won the yearling class at Royal Windsor Horse show in 1977, his name was Great Magic [out of Candidaa -Greatheart/Maracanda (Mikeno)], he was a very beautiful horse and was loaned/sold to Beverley Glover who also showed him successfully in-hand. A friend of mine bred her mare (Kesreine - Crystal King/Yirene [Iridos]) to Great Magic in 1980, the resulting colt foal was named Prince Consort (stable name Albert). I lost touch and do not know whether he was kept entire or gelded. I heard that Pipers Green Stud had disbanded due to Judy and Gerhart divorcing and sadly Judy passed away a couple of years ago. She was a font of knowledge on Arabian horses and was a great help to me in my introduction to the Arabian world.
Don't know whether my ramblings have helped at all ? ?

I was very lucky in having the Sunlea, Kelmstone, Shergolds and Pipers Green Arabian Stud near to me when I lived in Surrey so used to see their horses a lot at all the local horse shows. I remember 'Dancing Magic' well though ironically I don't appear to have any decent photographs of him but here are two of his sons -'Great Magic' and 'Grand Magic' (f. 1991 x Granida) both taken at Royal Windsor Horse Show in 1992

C.J. is that Beverley Glover showing the two Dancing Magic sons ??? Where abouts did you live then ? I bought a filly from Kay Healey (Kelmstone Stud) way back in 1973 - I lived in Staines.

Hi Terri
I'm afraid I don't know who it is showing the colts but I lived in a little village called Lyne between Chertsey and Virginia Water which came under the Chertsey postal district. I was in Surrey for 22 years before moving back to Hampshire where I was born.
Best wishes |

I have been racking my brain as I recognise the handler but to no avail (age-related). I have lived aound the area for a very long time and knew all the studs including, of course, Sue Lea who owned some beautiful mares and also Abu Dhahi. I used her stallion Bin Rimini and that was the beginning of all the horse family. His descendants are in my profile.
Judy Rust was such a help when I lost my foundation mare ,Evening Snowdrop, and had to hand-rear her son Rimarli. She rushed over to help with the feeding and brough me a little rug for him. I med Dancing Magic when I went to thank her. He was lovely. It was such a shame they had to close the stud.
Kelmstone is, of course, still there but it is smaller. |
