Blimey, how awful for both of you and very happy to hear that he's on the mend now.

Years ago a horse at the yard I was at developed a foul smelling mouth and stopped eating, several visits from the vet, antibiotics etc, nothing helped. In desperation she asked an old horseman to look and he found a piece of stick about 4 inches long stuck behind Blaze's last molar. When it was removed Blaze visibly sighed in relief, he opened his mouth wide and made several large chewing motions then dragged his owner to the grass and ate ravenously.

She told the vets and they let her off paying for the vet visits bit she still have to pay for the antibiotics!!

Your poor, poor, brave boy and you. What is it with vets that some of them are so arrogant? Some of you may remember my proble with my mare who had a false pregnsncy but the locum vet had palpated and said he felt the foal's feet. When the foal did not appear and three weeks later a second opinion said that she had a false pregnancy the senior partner of the original practice lied and was extremely rude to me and my daughter, who is a vet. I asked for help from the Royal College but to no avail. Apparently there is a sayint in Belgium that to qualify as a vet one thing you must be is arrogant.

I hope your lovely boy continues to improve and that you can then get on with your life together.

Oh my God, what a horrendous time for you both. You can but put your faith in your vet and that happens. He is such a beautiful boy and has been so good through all this. What an unfeeling yard owner!! I do hope you find a decent place to take Star. You must be exhusted after it all, your luck must change now.
I am so lucky that I have my own yard and I do actually keep mine in individual paddocks but next to each other because I have seen too often the result of a kick and would rather avoid the risk.Pity there were not more yards that offered individual turnout.
Best wishes to you both

Donna, I am so sorry. I missed this post

I can't believe the ordeal that Star and you have had to go through and now having to move yards. If the move has taken place already, I hope it went well, if not, hope it goes well.

Have sent you a pm

Hi all just to give you a update on Star
He has settled into his new home very well
He has a little friend called Bambi who is a falabella she adores him and follows him everywhere lol
He is looking so well considering what he has gone through that my friend convinced me to take him to a show.
So on Sunday i went to a local show i didn't even know if he would go in the trailer as the last time he was in one it was to go to the vets,Well he was a bit hesitant but he went in and it only took about half an hour to get there and when i got him off he was perfect and i think he was in shock that he wasn't at the vets.We got there at 10.30 as they said my class would be before 12.00 well in the end the class didn't start till 2.30 and Star was going to sleep where it was so hot and he was a bit bored with all the hanging around.Well he behaved perfectly in the ringeven though he looked a bit grumpy even the judge said that He did a lovely trot and when we got pulled in 2nd i nearly cried as i was so pleased i wouldn't of cared if we hadn't of been placed as i was taking him out so he had a nice day for once
Here are a few pics

In the field i know there are a lot of buttercups

With is little friend

I forgot to add before he went to the show he had been out all night so no wonder he was tired even though i brought him in at 6.00 in the morning
Well actually we were both tired
Sorry for all the pics but i am so proud of Star as i didn't think i would see this day

Well done, Donna. Great result and nice to see Star looking so well after his long ordeal. We do tend to put our trust in vets as professionals but, as we know to our cost, the professional arrogance of some can lead to life threatening situations. Good for you for having the courage to change your vets, for asking for a second opinion and for changing yards to somewhere more suitable for Star. Keep taking him out, he is lovely.

Yes I've got masses of buttercups as well, tried spraying them but I think we did it too late

Hi Donna,

I'm so glad you found somewhere nice for both you and star. He is a very stunning looking boy. I hadn't seen your original post on 29th April as i didn't join AL until around 11th May.

I know i PMd you about something last week (can't remember what now... Old age setting in..) but i am based in Essex.

Is you new yard the one in Havering-atte-bower? If so i am very close to you.

Didn't we chat about maybe you taking Star to the show at Brook Farm...? You definitely should he is very handsome (although you will be in direct competition with me and my baby and will probably beat us as i still can't get his tail clean...)

It would be lovely to meet up. My mobile is on the past PM i sent you.

Hi Nichole yes we are in Havering Atte Bower i am back at the yard as i was at before for 28 years its not the best of places but all the horses are happy there and there are so many fields and only about 12 horses old and young so its ideal for StarI think i will take him to Brook Farm as its only a 5 minute drive for us and it would be lovely to meet up i will give you a ring soon
