This awful. For various reasons I contemplated putting a horse on loan at one point, but then didnt need to. I would be terrified to loan out a horse now. All I hear is them either returning in terrible condition, mentally or physically, or having been sold.
It's desperately sad for the owners but also because there are reputable loaners out there. I had two mares on loan, both who finally became "officially" mine. I didnt think much at the time, but I would have been devastated if the owner had ever wanted them back ! I would never have ill treated or sold them, heaven forbid. But I fear this option will soon disappear completely as we will all to be too frightened unless the person is one of our best friends, and lives close enough to keep a good eye out. How very sad all round.

OMG, this is just awful, this poor horse, surely all sales should check that the last owner on freezemarking papers are the same person who is entering them at the sale and also abbatoirs should not take anything unless the paperwork is up to date and backed up by paperwork of the said owners?????? my heart goes out to the owners too who must be going out of their minds with worry, its just to awful for words, please keep us updated on this story please God he will be home soon, its heartbreaking

Did you manage to find out where she sold him to? Did she have his passport and when did you last see him? I'm in West Yorkshire so any info may help to get your lad found.

It makes me so sad to read this posting, just what type of person would do this. I hope Tim turns up safe and sound and this person gets what they deserve. I am sure AL members will be on the case for you. My thoughts are with you.

I think it is horrendous that people who take horses on loan - when they find their circumstances change - cannot get back in touch with the people who entrust their horses to their care and not inform them of problems.

We have over the years loaned one or two horses out BUT have always kept in touch at REGULAR times.

If the owners cannot keep in touch, we must find a way to not lose track of these horses - so they do NOT end up lost, sold or "disposed" of without trace.

Maybe, we should consider freezemarking, microchipping or some way of "flagging" these horses - even getting "local" guardians to keep an eye on them. Maybe the passport system needs to be upgraded to include ALL the information. It seems to be too easy to get "fresh" passports without too many checks.

Sadly it's too late when owners have to post on sites like AL.

I do hope you find your beloved horses who are "lost".

This is Unbelievable Sorry but he wasn't hers to sell how couls she do that to the poor horse or to the poor owner who is obviously out of her mind with worry, how can she live with herselfI could kill people like this how could anyone do it I hate to think what I would do to anyone that harmed a single hair on my beloved horse, I loaned my stallion out and he came back looking fabulous and so happy and content, I thank God everyday that I was so fortunate that the girls loved and took care of him as much if not more than me, I was obviously very lucky and so was he........ my heart goes out to the owner and pray that her beloved horse is safe, the law has to do something, this is just so unbelievable
