I go for a pre op on Tues then get a day to go into bupa to have op, im praying they let me out same day as all my family live away and o/h will be in canada, i have a couple girls that have horses at same place - a small yard with 3 other liveries but they are all working long hrs and im struggling for horse help, ideally i want to be out hospital on day of op so i can do them myself but ive been told surgery is painful:( is there anyone that can reccomend a reliable horse sitter/someone to go to yard twice a day and take care of 2 mares), all haynets and feeds will be pre done apart from add speedy beet and waterers are automatic, they are very easy to do, preg mare is as chilled as cucumber at min and the other is a very easy sec d mare, neither bite or kick ect - i am East Yorks

Hi Angie
You can't possible do your horses the day of your operation even if you do come home! I hope you find someone close by that can help you out for a few days as i am sure you should be resting a bit!

Yeah im going to ask at local saddlers ect at the weekend, i know they will take me in quite quick as they have all cameras/biopsies/scans infact you name it so its just a consultation tues before i go in, im hoping im not stopping there but i wont be waiting as i get bupa healthplan and have never waited long at all for all my treatments, my horses are really easy, stabled inside on american barn stables, one shavings does all mess on same pile every day, the other straw but not dirty, im not bothered so much re the grooming ect just to make sure they are fed ect so im not asking that whoever i can find spends hrs on end with them, if they want could ride my welsh but dont have to, we have sandschool ect, muck trailer on a ramp at end of barn so all very clean and easy but oh boy im finding it hard, my o/h isnt one bit horsey so if he wasnt away id still not dare leave him to sort them without me lol |

Angie,
when I had my op, I wasnt allowed to sit for six weeks,NO EXCEPTIONS, until seen by surgeon again. Could toddle about, and I mean toddle, and lie.
Its so hard for the doctors when the patient is semi mobile, easy when they are not.
Mine was a little different to you , I was bedbound, and without the op, would have remained bedbound, so the surgeon told John I had no alternative but the knife. Pain wears you down, depresses you,and makes you feel 100. My heart goes out to anyone with proper pain, (not ache.)
It took me 6 MONTHS to feel anything like normal again, that meant drive, walk for an hour, hoover, and muck out.
I feel sure you will not be able, and should not, do anything heavy for the six weeks at least. You probaly wont feel like it, but hopefully when you are fully recovered, you will feel like a new woman.
When on holiday I use animal aunts, or Sarah Manfredi, expensive, but brilliant.
DONT DO ANYTHING STUPID ANGIE, I MEAN THAT IN THE NICEST POSSIBLE WAY.
All the very best, |
