Dennis has surpassed himself. If I had not seen it with my own eyes I would not have believed it.

Once in a while I give my lot a hanging lickit - Not the smaller ones that go in the ball although he's got one of those too. Dennis's record for breaking one in half was 2 1/2 minutes, the whole lot scoffed in in about 5.

Because he can eat them so quickly I bought him the codlivine version called a Best Mate. It's slightly smaller then the original Lickit and the holder is apple shaped. I thought that being smaller Dennis would not be able to get his big gob round it to bite it in half WRONG. It lasted a whole .......... 15 seconds and he bit it in half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can your horse beat that!!!!

You should think yourself lucky. I try to be generous by getting my lot liks, but they all thgink they are too much hard work and leave them hanging there for months. I need a Dennis!

Hiya, just thought i would say with our love of our horses many of us me included give them things to stem the bordom in these horrid winter months, a word of warning with the said Lickit, they are very high in sugar and are designed to be eaten very slowly over the course of days, not seconds and it was this that caused my sisters much loved retired show gelding to get such bad Laminitis, i just thought i would say as Kahn wasnt fat, didnt go out all day on great grass just an hour and contracted it in Febuary just when my sister was treating him to things to try and stop the bordom, he also lived on a low sugar low starch diet at the time as he was such a good doer.

I hope you dont mind me saying its just i would hate to hear of another arab with that awful word Laminitis.

Best wishes for 2006 and may you all have a great season ahead.x.x.x.x

Amigo my American Saddlebred can demolish a hanging Licket in seconds - one chomp & its gone!! Needless to say he doesn't get one very often! My other neddies have shown no interest in them!

I have stopped buying the mangermates as ali eats a whole one overnight and at over £3 a go thats toooo much. However the little ones that go in the sides of the ball they last a good week or so. I did think it was a bad idea for him to be eating the big ones so quick and i did hear somewhere that they were suspected of causing colic in one horse. Dont know if its true but i guess they are designed to be LICKED not chomped!! I started hanging up swedes (morrisons 36p) they get eaten v quick.

The little likit's which fit in the ball last a couple of hours. Swede is one thing that Dennis doesn't like. I'm amazed really because he's such a greedy bugger!!!!

God Vera - I wouldn't even dare contemplate trying a mini-licket in a ball as Amigo would eat the ball as well!! Hes a pure bred American Saddlebred - quite unlike any other horse! He has such amazing articulation that he can lift a front leg & place his hoof flat ontop of a high stable door - he does this for fun!! I wouldn't have believed it till I saw him doing it!! Hes also got a VERY, VERY long neck & can reach things other horses can only dream about - so have to make sure when hes stables that he can't reach anything!!!!

OK Vera Trio has taken this as a challenge!!! I'd better get some Lickits next weekend and see what we can do...... ( 25 year old teeth do give her an advantage, she is my orange chomping machine!!!)

Dennis's little lickit is the free hanging ball type, not what they call the tongue twister - the ball which screws into the wall. If I gave him one of those the lickit would last about 15 minutes at a guess!!!!

Once he broke it in half I took half away because I knew he would scoff the lot in under a minute. It was the Aniseed one, I also bought the caramel one and that smells good enough to eat myself!

Judith - you know that red round balls that you put nuts in and they fall out the hole as it rolls around. Dennis killed one of those in half an hour. They are supposed to be indestructable!! He hasn't managed to kill his decahedron type one yet - although he has a dam good go!!

Heatherr - I'll await the results but I can see what you mean about a teeth advantage!!!

Vera - you know the black recycled tyre feed skips - well Amigo ripped one in half in five mins!! Also I bought him one of those balls to play with - he ate the handle within mins!! I think I should call him Amigo the Destroyer! He recently tried to pick up our quad bike by the seat & ripped a hugh chunk out of it - while Alan was doing the haylagae at feed time - he was NOT ammused He can also easily pull out a well knocked in fence stake out of the ground!! The stud that bred him also breeds mini ponies & when he was a yearling he shared his large stable in the winter with a mini pony - that was until he developed the habit of picking it up by its rug & carrying it round the stable! Also one of the ladies that bred him is tiny & he used to pick her up by her collar & hold her off the ground with her feet dangling & she used to have to shout for help - luckily Ilm too heavy for him to try that trick with me!! Hes a lovely boy - really!!

Now that is impressive, bet he looks really pleased with himself!! Sometimes I give Dennis paper feed sacks (string removed) and he loves to rip those up. Sometimes he gallops about shaking it like a dog does!! Perhaps Amigo would like to have a go .......

Dennis doesn't try to pick me up but he does have a habit of licking my bum when I'm poo picking him, without warning he will grab hold of the back of my trouser leg and lift up...........

I can't tell him off because he's just sooo funny with it. Like Amigo he's a lovely boy really. He's not a bit lovey dovey or cuddly though he does occasional soft moments but they're usually accompanied by a swift nip and butter wouldn't melt WHO ME type look!!!!

Heather - have mailed you.

Now Vera - paper feed sacks sound interesting I'm sure Amigo would just love to play with one - will try it sometime! Recently he picked up a small round bale of haylage ever so easily - as if weighed nothing at all - he has an amazing grip with his teeth & also amazing leverage as being a Saddlebred his neck can go straight up vertical from his shoulders - VERY impressive!! Back in the summer he let himself out of the field (removed the stake with leccy fence on it!) & got to where we had some of the previous years large round bale haylage stored - well he had fun ripping hugh holes in the plastic of six of them - b****y horse!!

I've just been out riding on him this afternoon - about 2 hrs up round the forestry & as we were going up this rather overgrown track he helped himself to a rather large fallen branch of fir & carried it about 150 yds before I could persuade him to let go!!

Hes a REAL character & great fun!!
