Does anyone know when and where the new Crabbet show is? I was told it was in Devon in May but have also heard September! Can anyone shed any light on this and also where can you get schedules?

Hi Lisa, The Crabbet Weekend incorporating the first Crabbet Show in the UK is 2-3rd September 2006. The venue is www.blackdownhillscrosscountry.co.uk It's just off the A303 and M5 just over the Somerset border into Devon. Stabling will be available at nearby yards on request from the entries secretary. There is no stabling at the venue. Horses must be 75%+ Crabbet. For more info contact Caroline Sussex at Binley Stud. I hope this helps. Debbie |

UP for the Crabbets!! I hope as many people as possible will support this show. If I get confident enough towing my trailer I might even take Flame!!I have never shown before so I would have to suck it and see!!! I wouldn't miss an opportunity to see all the beautiful Crabbet horses Anyone else going?? |

I wish they would make it so horses over 70% could come.

Why oh why? do they have to have this show at the back of beyond and not more central? Surely it would make more sence to try and get a more cental location for eveyone. There are alot of crabbet related horses in Britain, but not all in the south. People just won't travel that far, and many can't afford to. Numbers will be limited to those that live in the area or within a reasonable traveling distance, and we will not get to see the true picture of crabbet horses in Britain today. Please if you are going to make this an anual show, re-think your venue to include more of our crabbet horses, there are pleny of them out there that never get a chance to be seen, other than little local shows. Here's hoping ! |

I think I put this on before but the venue will change each year so next year it could be birmingham, then manchester, london etc. I live in Cornwall so nowhere is convenient for me, even Malvern is five hours away!! |

I have never been to an arab show, let alone crabbet so I will definately be there. Have never shown Freddie, not even boxed him and this is where Libby is going to tell me to take him ha ha. (Sorry Libby, not confident enough for that) but I will be there!!

Lisa I'm right down near Land's End so have to travel to go absolutely anywhere But as you say Malvern is 5 hours away and most people would think nothing of travelling thereBUT for some reason nobody wants to travel 5 hours to come to the West Country. There seems to be a psychological barrier about travelling westwards.
I'm very excited about it anyway -for once it means a horse event is within a days travel. How do you know what percentage Crabbet is acceptable? |

If you're not sure about the % of your horse give Caroline Sussex a ring and she will help. |

You are concerning me now Libby, why would you want to put yourself to all that bother, you've got your own to think about, isnt even as if you live nearby!!!
Dont get me wrong, I WOULD LOVE YOU TO,it would seriously be a dream come true, I had just resigned myself to the fact that although he is magnificent in my eyes, it would never happen!!

No, Libby,
I have achieved a lot with him and Im proud of it but showing him, I just couldnt do it. Dont know anything about it and accept that some things in life pass you by!! Thats why I so wish I had been into horses as a child, that would be different and I envy you that much!!

Trouble is Deb, I didnt get near a horse until nearly 5 years ago when I took on Freddie from my son and I was bla eh hum years old then ha ha!! Wish I had at least done something at 15!! - plus, poor lad hasnt been on a lorry since he was a baby and Libby loaded him and never been to a show either. I will definately be there, look forward to meet you and cheer you on, but as for Freddie, well its a lot to ask I think.

The first show i did was Bath and West as a cocky 17 yo in 88, ( Debbie might remember this!) and i took our filly into the ring and was put last ,i thought to myself were not staying here, and walked out the ring!!! Seemed to set off a precedence because after that alot of people seemed to do it,but i didnt know what i was doing and got one hell of a telling off from my mother afterward!!!Since then ive learnt to bite the bullet!! |
