Sue, Sounds like a good plan of action to me! I must say that I am looking forward to the riding bit in a couple of years time too

Perhaps I should take my boy to a show or two next year, the Egyptian Event UK perhaps for starters.

Below are a couple of pics of his dad as a 3 year old for comparision (better pictures than I could possibly take)

Michelle, I would hope that at least some (preferably all ) of the folk breeding to the egyptian stallions you mentioned are doing so because they are darned good horses which should suit their mares, rather than because its currently fashionable to do so

Mike, I think your colt is really nice. Yes he looks a bit immature and he has his teeth bumps I think, but he looks like his head will dry out very nicely . He has gorgeous big eyes and a nice neck and throat. I would like to see his tail carriage as that is very important to me.
I think he will be very interesting to see in a couple of years time. What is his breeding again?

Sorry Mike I think we posted at the same time.
Yes, of course they must be using those stallions for that reason.... I am meaning that there should be more egyptian enthusiasts!
Not good at explaining myself, feeling a bit brain dead today as my job is so boring it kills brain cells..... you know what I mean!

Now I know that one is Norus!

Arghhhhh, the tooth bumps (a new one every week it seems ) I keep telling myself that at some point in the future they will be gone

As for his breeding, his sire is Norus (Gharib X Noha) and his dam is by The Egyptian Prince out of a mare by Sar Ibn Moniet who is one of my all time favourites. I have a head shot of Norus taken once his head had dried out, I will try to find it when I get home tonight. I do think that the colt will be rather nice with a few more years under his belt, (preferably without the infernal tooth bumps too)

Not offended Michelle!....I love my colt, he is more Mum than Dad,....he has a very sweet nature, I do my horses myself, and as I suffer with Meniere's, a slight balance problem!!..no alcohol needed as excuse! ...my horses Have to be good for me to manage alone.(hubby works away)

He is very Seglawi, or what ever the correct spelling is for the male, he is a very showy colt, with a brilliant tail carrage and pretty head, in fact, his head will get even better.....from this mare Jameena, an old Fadli line, the heads improve, rather than go off....So look out Dad!! this son is going to knock some socks off later on!!

I have wanted a colt from this dam line for some time, and here he is......I'll take a chance on him reproducing well, he has a strong dam line, the old Babson horses are very prepotent, they are able to pop up generation to generation.
His first mare will be an Ibn Estopa mare! now that will be interesting.....I'll keep you informed!!

Sue, I think you are on a fairly safe bet...then dam line has produced some very pretty boys who have also been good producers too

I havn't got anything booked to him!!......he is not available yet.
He will cover my Russian mare by Peleng, she has huge eyes, but a straight profile, so he will prove himself well if he can pretty her up more!
The camera is warming up ready!!

Hi Helen, you have a point in that it is possible to store up trouble for later with a big strapping, hormone laden four year old and I have in the past started colts off at two on just the odd mare or two and ended up with stallions who behave themselves very nicely when breeding. This chap though has only just realised that horses come in more than one sex though and I'm not really in any great rush to use him just because he's there with all the necessary (and hopefully functional!) equipment. The long term plan is to use him on some of Maidan's daughters when they are themselves old enough. Maidan consistantly does the big eyes + type + movement + tail carriage stuff (at least on my mares) and I'm hoping that this chap will add a little stretch and pass on his topline.

Here is the mature headshot of Norus I mentioned earlier

And this is my chap with his dam when he was quite a bit smaller

Mum's got the lovely eye too,.......obviously it will pass on through the colt.

What about sending colt away to a showing yard where they will also stand him at stud for you?
It may cost to start with, but even if he get's a couple of mares, it will help the keep?...he will be promoted, and shown.
Georgian Arabians do this sort of thing, they do come and look at your horse first......seems so insulting really!!.
Only we havn't got that many Egyptians down here at stud.

Just a thought.

Sue, I don't think the eyes will be a problem...below is his maternal half sister by Maidan who seems OK in the eye department to me, but it is a valid point

Yes perhaps I should think of sending him to a showing yard for next season, any suggestions anyone?

I was wondering how many people would figure it out....the damline is so important. Why would someone NOT use the son of a good father - especially if the son's damline is superior?

Mike,

I like your colt, I need to come and visit you. I'm beside Rothienorman so not that far..

You should advertise your young boy/stud locally...the choice of good quality stallions in this area is virtually nil.

Kind Regards,

Joyce

If I was sending a horse anywhere I'd be saving my pennies and getting on bended knee to have it with Erik Dorssers in Holland. As the way the horse is treated in training is WAY further up my list than wins (not that there's any room for critisising his results!) there can be no one else for me.Not that there aren't any number of small yards in the UK who are soppy with the equines in their care, but the reputation Erik has is second to none.

I have to agree with you there Cass,......I wonder what he charges per month though?
Would love to send a horse to him.
I'll start saving now!

Suyen,
When next in sunny South Molton, perhaps we should organise a tour of the local Arab Studs around here!!
Lisa C, Marlene, Me!!!!!Sue L.
Should take in the day, a few bottles of wine, lunch somewhere?

Just remembered, if you get to Marlene's, you can't leave until you have wrestled with mini spotty ponies, that buck like mad!!! great fun.

Better idea, pop over to Holland, and see for ourselves?

Sue,

A tour sounds like a great idea & could be real fun too

The colts dam DID stay briefly at Eric's on her way over from the states, I think I shall have to start saving the pennies if her son were to stay longer than a day or so Assuming Eric would have him of course
