How do you lot feel about white markings on a horse? It doesn't bother me at all and I am suprised how many people hate it???
I know most people say taht a good horse is never a bad colour, but what about a wide blaze or high socks?

Nor me!

The wider the colour variety the better. What a bore it would be if classes were filled with only one colour.

I personally think a white star/blaze makes the face stand out more - which i like.I also like leg markings.

There is an old Bedouin saying about 'high white'. They didn't like it.I'm not keen on it either (a lot of white) but there's no denying that OAS Panache is drop dead gorgeous - high white or not!
There's still a lot of prejudice against four white feet - which in Arabians traces back to the original Saqlawi mare (Saqlawi means 'kicker') who had 4 white feet and was of course chestnut. She also had a very exotic head, so much so that a strain was founded from her...

I personally would like to see a chestnut with some white on its face and legs but i do LOVE chestnuts and if their flaxen aswell, i just melt! A friend of ours in Europe asked how big white blazes were recieved in England as we have a mare, stallion and a foal with white blazes but black circles around the muzzle and the blaze is actually outlined in black pigment. Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but as a rule i find it is not favoured.

I would like to mention that i also have a black mare who has a small white star, small sock on back leg and a white circular patch on her shoulder. The comments i have had reference her white patch on her shoulder have been perhaps cruel but i have broad shoulders and can wear them. The interesting thing being, i show photos of her offspring and they are drooling saying what beauties they are. You see she doesn't throw much if any white and the filly i have from her this year is outstanding,in my opionin, and is as black as your hat!

"a good horse is never a bad colour"

"beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

"What a bore it would be if classes were filled with only one colour."

Just about sums it up for me! Makes no difference in my opinion. But I do have quite a large soft spot for all chestnuts, white or no white!

most of ours are chestnut with alot of white. we also have a sabino mare and stallion (sabino being irregular white markings and roaning) the sabino's were once fround upon, but in todays age of everything looking the same, the sabino is becoming very popular as they are eye catching. the sabino tag is recessive and so can skip, but ours throw everytime so far.

i think that alot of white seems to look better on chestnuts than say bays, but as said 'a good horse is a good horse!'

The only problem with white on legs if the skin pigmentation is pink they can be more prone to mud fever.
I have to admit to adoring bays they gleam even when they are dirty!!
Just bought my first grey, dont know how I will feel about stable stains and keeping her clean, away to buy some bay spray paint

my mare was chestnut with four high stockings a small blaze and flaxen mane.she did very well on the ridden circuit and seemed to catch the judges eye, carnt say I found any predudice! yes she was a kicker(she had four white feet)although she has got better with age! and boy did she suffer with mud rash, couldnt go out of her stable without having her legs towelled off everytime! which my husband loved as we would have umpteen muddy towels in the washer every weekend Saying that I just love chestnuts and the more white the better

one day your a rooster the next a feather duster.

I LOVE chestnuts with white blazes and big white socks.......Funny that! (good job too, really!)
There is a dilike to it, don't know why. If it has type, personality, manners or whatever it is you look for in a horse, does it really matter.
Tina & a lot of white charlie.

It certainly doesn't make any difference to me when judging, I like some white. However, here in Texas and in any hot climate, the problem of sunburn is horrible. We can only turn the horses with much white out at night, to avoid them getting very sore and blistered, even with suntan lotion. That's porbably why the Bedouins didn't like it. Liz Salmon

I have some horses with white markings who live out all summer and never get sunburnt! I live in London and our summer has been HOT - maybe they are just used to it?

I don't mind white bits, but prefer even to odd "socks".
You'll all think I'm crazy, but my favourite colour is CREMELLO, (aside from a true leopard spotted appaloosa, that is).

Colour is very personal, generally the darker the horse the less I like white on it, or at least with reduced white. Having said that, I am so used to 4 white stockings on chestnuts that non white looks decidedly odd, and flaxen manes set off chestnut better than the dark red.

Having said that, one fo my favourite black mares had four little white socks like her grandsire Blacklord Caesaro, and I like the chestnut stallion Hadeir, who does not thave the 'high white' I am so used to on this colour.

As someone who does not like broken colour, pies and skews, I was judging 'the in hand' class at a nearby livery yard, and out of about 15 entered had a coloured pony third behind a TB and hack, as it had so much quality. (and above Welsh which I love)

Variety is the spice of life, don't they say?
