Emma - I kept watching the ridden ring but couldn't spot you. Long way to come for you and not get in the ring. Hope to see you and your mare and my racehorse at HoCoN!!!! |

Your telling me, all the way to Wales, to school my mare in the collecting ring, and I brought my gelding for company for my mare travelling, so just ended up being a jolly road trip!!!for them both! Ringing round manic' now to get another saddle for her!!! Might have to borrow one if I havent got one quick enough for Hocon!! Hopefully the little hive lumps she has will be gone by the weekend, after bathing them a zillion times!! and a bottle of camomile lotion!! |

The main ring was divided the other way this year. Same set up as used in past when grass ring - in-hand 1/2 nearest spectator banking with collecting ring used by ridden last year; ridden in other 1/2. Was rather like a "jousting" situation at times with in-hand coming one way and ridden the other - but that was how it has usually been in the past except now there is a barrier all the way between (in the past used to be those huge blue bins and nothing in between them). Horses (in both rings)did spook a little but nothing major. Can't comment on the ridden quality as concentrating on in-hand ring. |

The HOYS classes were very strong with some well seasoned campaigners forward! and there were some very nice novices forward too. OAS Panache looked fab. I was worried about the ring layout! but it didnt prove to be a problem for most of the open horses, didnt see the novices though!
Moreglen Midas Touch owned by Jackie Sidebottom was the winner of the 148 ridden class. Ridden by me! Linda, I was suprised the entries were so low for the part bred classes, its a shame when its such a great show and venue. |

That Fflirtation looks like an amazing mare. Does anyone know where she has been previously as I have not seen her before? Could someone let me know who is her owner?
Thank-you very much, |

Just thrilled to hear Fflirtation becoming Senior Mare Champion She was indeed from Ffatals very first foal crop of just three ! He didn't cope with sex very well at first..........he's very good at it now The other two were HT Nataal and Mosabi - both very successful show horses. Many congratulations to Glenys and Amjed and also to Lisa and Darron. Darron has been there since the beginning. We found F3 ( Alysia) in agony one day in the field ( bit of a drama queen !) to be told by my old vet that the foal, Fflirtation, had moved into the birth canal & would arrive in the next 48 hours. When she born 2 weeks later ( changed vet ! ) I was on my knees Mark was showing in Qatar and with two young children I couldn't have done the mare watch without Darron. So it seems fitting that he & Lisa get to enjoy her now. Amazingly Fflirtation has just turned 11 and F3 has just had her next daughter !!!! Congratulations to Judith I'm green with envy !!! but smug too !!!!! |

Hi Delyth, it was great to have fflirtation back again in the show ring as she has been away having babys. Her daughter was champion mare at Bicton last year and her son by kerim Shah was Junior Male Champion two years ago as well. Glenys Allen has owned her since she was two and I have been showing her since she was a three year old. She has not been shown a great deal but this did not stop her from winning at Aachen . Its so nice to see home breed horse winning and Wales and West had some really nice horses that should have great futures ahead of them... Have you seen F3 filly..... Lisa |

Perhaps the Anglo and part bred classes should be opened to unregistered horses? The old debate comes up again - how to either encourage more to register or to acknowledge Arab blood without the expense of AHS membership, registration costs etc. We all know there are loads of part breds out there. Many would love to show at our regional shows... Should we be refusing to accommodate these Arab crosses because they won't officially join the Arab set? |

Congratulations to Glenys Allen and her show team for wining the senior mare championship with Fflirtation. She was in a class of her own!! It really made our trip to the show memrable inspite of the weather. Lisa do you train your horses in the rain?? Nice one. |

When I last showed at Wales & West with a part-bred, the classes were well filled. I haven't got an answer as to why the entries have dropped. Maybe another show appealed more!! You do not have to be a member of the AHS to show a part-bred.

Hi Lisa Havent seen ' Affiffa ' yet but F3's coming 'home' to be re-bred to Ffatal surprise surprise !! Judith is thrilled with her she's apparently very tall and very typey and very female !! Can't complain though I've got three Amaretto fillies so far this year - I've never had three fillies in my life !! Aachen seems such along time ago - can't wait to see Miss Marple |

Hi, on the subject of anglo and part bred entries - or rather lack of them, I would have loved to have brought the gang but just too far and our vehicle leaks like a seive so camping was out of the question. perhaps next year well bring a cart load. |

With regard to the lack of entries for in-hand Anglos and Part Breds..........Wales and West used to have huge entries, however the emphasis is always on Pure Breds at this show. This is not meant as a negative criticism, just an observation here. Perhaps using good 'old fashioned judges' might make a difference, not to say Malcolm is not old fashioned or not good,as he is obviously excellent......maybe a sponsorship package to encourage exhibitors back again could work I think being made to be a member of the AHS to enter should be encouraged, especially at a regional breed show, there are many other shows non members can attend without the need to join AHS. just my opinion here. But, having the right judge I am certain will help. I know they have to share the judge for in-hand and ridden to make things viable, but if they could afford to get a dedicated part bred judge all the better I think.
Bicton has one judge just doing in-hand part and anglos, and the classes there are very good. Devon County had a dedicated in-hand part Bred judge and again classes were good.........17 in one!...and 7 in the yearling class
Perhaps we should start thinking of supporting this show by some form of sponsorhip. ? |
