A couple of hours ago I went in the extension loft to get something. Couldn't quite reach it...forgot only supposed to put weight on the beams...felt it giving way...couldn't stop and then WHOOSSHHH...through the ceiling landing in the shower below...someone on the loo there (won't name them!)got quite a surprise!...shocked and in pain initially but no bones broken, "just" a spectacular buise on the back of thigh and a few superficial cuts and buises...got the ice on quick...now the "funny" thing - a little while after that got a phone call from someone asking if we knew about grants to thicken loft insulation!! followed by one from an accident claim company - are they psychic or linked to NHS direct??? We were having a new celing in the shower room anyway!!! I feel very stupid as I KNOW I shouldn't have done that!

Never mind-no harm done! As long as you are ok that's all that matters!
You will get your ceiling done a bit quicker as it will be cold having a shower now!

Marilyn, when we lived in Scotland - Chris decided to save money and lay the loft insulation himself. Yes, guess what, he came through the bedroom ceiling - didn't save us any money, cost a fortune to repair it!!!
Glad to hear you are OK - good job the other person was on the loo!!!!! |

We can see the funny side! Suyen - amazingly I didn't have a camera with me (neither did Jo!). This morning's report: bruises of spectacular colours!(and shapes!) - mainly on back of right thigh (well swollen too) and back of top left arm; some cuts on back and stomach; but I'm SO STIFF ALL OVER!!!!! and can do nothing other than VERY slowly - which for someone like me is BAD NEWS!! (Due to report on this season's first (for me) point-to-point on Sunday and I'm usually here there and everywhere!) Luckily (?) we're on 1/2 term as there's no way I could keeep tabs of my lively class at the moment! Lying in the bath was a relief BUT the bathroom's due for ripping out today (should have been Monday but the fitters were ill) - think I'll have to use a neighbour's - OH I want the new (BIG whirlpool type) bath NOW!!!!!!! Anyway I've been lucky - could have been MUCH worse for me and at least where I landed was the "best" place given a choice! if I'd gone to the right I would have been in the office and imagine the disaster that would have caused - to me and what lies below! |

Seems to me you had a lucky escape Marilyn, glad that you are OK though. Witch Hazel is great for bruises, not my favourite smell but it works.

So glad you haven't done any lasting damage Marilyn, you will be suffering from shock as well. It dosen't help when we have accidents as we get older, (I've just ducked)>? spelling) takes longer to recover. susan |

Thanks for the tip Angel! Hang on there Susan...I'm a spring chicken really just being a (temporary!)grizzly old bear at the moment! By the way it's the Beswick Collectors Club Get-together this weekend which we're hosting so I'll have to pick up to be the "hostess with the mostest" by Saturday! |

Witch hazel seems to be helping - bruises are changing colour - the swelling on my leg is less than the virtual "rugby ball" it was! I went back to the doctors today and have been signed off for the week - I'm still in pain and also wouldn't be mobile enough to keep up with my class and should my leg get knocked...The insurance rep has been out to examine the shower tray and Pete's boarded the hole in the ceiling...we were having a new ceiling done anyway! I won't be going up a ladder again in a hurry!!! |
