I'm joining Nicci My OH is ill with this flu / cold thing too and we've decided to call off tonight's dinner out too and re-schedule for when he's feeling better.
Shame too as I was really looking forward to it - first time he's ever done anything for Valentine's Day.
Hey ho, I'll join Nicci in cooking at home and snuggling on the couch - once I've fed the rest of the menagerie that is.
Whatever you're doing tonight - enjoy

My sympathies to my poor friends here ~ we all seem to be in the same boat ~ in danger of drwoning in germs!!!!
My husband limped in last night looking somewhat shattered from his first day back at work after this flu thing....and I was trailing around very slowly after too much mucking out in the freezing wind and hail ~ AND a trip into icy St Helier whilst still coughing and wheezing....but the OUTRAGEOUSLY HUGE boquet of deep red roses and gypsophela ( spelling??) put the most radiant smile on my face!!!!
I have to laugh, he can hardly smell a thing at the moment and neither can I .... my daughter Juliette, who brought the flu back from school ~ got to blame someone , wasn't really up to smelling either....so when we popped into town to get John some men's fragrance, Boots parfumery department must have STUNK! We ALL sampled the colognes and after shaves, Juliette and myself spraying like it was going out of fashion and complaining that you don't get much of a fragrance for the money these days ....and Caroline trying a few out just for the hell of it, but SHE had the sense to spray them on the little bits of card provided and maybe only two on her wrist.
Well, at the best of times, a person's sense of smell after trying one or two scents, gets confused and deadened....so with our senses already out of order, courtesy of the virus, we got to the point where we couldn't smell any of it any more .... although by the looks on the assistants' and customers' faces ~ THEY could!!!
So I grabbed a deep blue ( John LOVES that colour) bottle "Ghost" , the "Man" version( Loves that film of the same name too ~ I told you ~ die hard romantic!), paid for it and fled!
The journey back in the car saw Caroline with her head out of the window ~ odd that!
Back at home, my senses must have picked up in the warmth of the house ~ or maybe it was the potency of the PONGS!
Anyway, it did seem a little bit more fragrant than usual ~ not counting the dogs and the chickens ( STILL in the hallway!)....
John came in, presented me with the roses and we exchanged gifts and a few more germs with a fond kiss or two and then he slumped into a chair. As I brought him a cup of tea, I could see him sniffing the air ...
" I thought I had no sense of smell at the moment because of this stuffy nose, " he began, " but I have to say, I'm VERY impressed ~ roses never seem to smell these days ~ is that really THEM making that marvellous smell?"
Well, the girls and I just fell about laughing.
Caroline tells me that the roses, gorgeous as they are, have no scent at all ~ and what he was catching a whiff of ~ all be it faintly ~ was the overwhelming STINK of about TWENTY different aftershaves and colognes in a warm room!!!

~Nicci I did cook up a storm ~ but sadly, only Caroline could taste properly!!!! *sighs* Oh well, another day....

I don't even know why!!
I'm definitely going to ask him as he is really lovely and i love him to bits! He even helped me out when I had my last horse - a skitzed out 16.3 TBX, who he HATED witha passion!
He said I can have another as soon as my debts are paid off - he looks after me and my money that way cos I'm sooo bad with it lol - give me a dotted line and i'll sign...... So I'm thinking about getting a purebred baby so he can get used to it and maybe he won't be so scared of him/her..... He'll go daft if I got as an engagement pressie for him!!!!!!! - just imagine |

My OH cooked me a 3 course meal, and a lovely card, AND 18 multicoloured roses - BIG surprise!
And even bigger surprise, he didn't make me sit through Arsenal, even though I said he could and that I didn't mind reading.
He's also getting up at 6.00 on saturday morning to help me move Jack - we're going to do it early as it's quieter, and he's coming to fetch and carry, as I'll be busy with jack, and also to give me moral support!!
I've promised to take him out for a meal and the cinema soon - and he's even let me 'owe' him it cos he knows the size of the vets bills I'm expecting! |
