Received a text from my neighbour to say that the "rabbit man" is coming this evening to shoot them. Not happy about this at all. The area that the "rabbit man" will be shooting is directly behind my stables!!
I appreciate that he was considerate enough to let me know but I am very concerned that this is going to cause unnecessary stress to my horses. I have just turned them back out in the field so that they can get away from the noise but just wondered if anyone knows of any specific laws that I could relay to this person and, politely request that they shoot elsewhere?
I have tried looking up on the net but can't seem to find any info about the location of shooting. i.e boundaries etc.
As yet, he hasn't turned up yet. Hoping it stays that way
If he is going to use anything other than an air rifle then the land must be licensed to be used for shooting and there are stict rules about where and in which direction they can shoot (i.e. away from houses/stables/footpaths etc).
Forgot to say, anyone is unlikely to use a shotgun as after the first bang all the rabbits disappear. When mine are done it is with a .22 rifle with a silencer (my land is licensed for shooting that's how I know).
They normally use an air rifle i think and they cannot shoot through or towards a boundary for obvious reasons (someone or something may be next to it) thats about as much as i know. hope this helps.
Panic over. I went out there later on in the evening and he was using an air rifle with a silencer. The reason I was worried was that he WAS using a shot gun on a previous occasion. He was using the ferret and nets and when the rabbits came out, he was shooting them.
Had a nice chat with him and he said that he won't be using the shot gun anymore and that he will always text us before coming. He wasn't aware that we had horses and now that he knows, he wouldn't want to upset them....
