Oh heck, I've just been on the line again to see Teddy and he's found a home!! Disaster!
I'm so disappointed, I had downloaded the pics to take them round to show Mum again.
Back to square one. I shall call the Blue Cross which isn't far away...
Doh!!! |

Just bumping this up to the top again, because we're still searching for a lurcher type dog for Mum. She can't really seem to get on with life again without one... has had one as a companion all her life and it's been so much more important since Dad died six years ago.
If anyone has any leads, perhaps they could shout loudly on here, or PM me. Letting Teddy go was a real mistake, but Mum was just not confident enough to let someone drive all the way from Yorkshire for her and then maybe not click with the dog.
However now, having been to several dogs' homes and found that lurcher types are disappearing out of the door (i.e. been 'booked') before they've even started assessment she won't be quite so reticent! |

Thanks Clio. Just been on the lurcherlink site and seen a super little puppy and have enquired about it, but the previous poster looked very interested and that was a week ago... It seems things keep slipping out of our grasp! I'm sure when we do find one it will be the right one for her, but it's distressing seeing the disappointment every time something comes to nought! |

Lanabanana - I'm going to ask Mum to look at her. I spoke to Kaye today and it seems Mum misunderstood the home check aspect but of course now wants a very quick home check. I'll call Kaye in the morning. (When Mum got Oscar from the National Canine Defence League, now the Dogs' Trust, she didn't have to have a home check... shows how long ago it was).
Slip does look a lovely girl, my only reservation is she is perhaps a bit old for Mum. She can't bear the prospect of losing another dog she's come to love. |

My old Saluki lived until he was 12, but he never was a particularly healthy dog so I would imagine she has a good few years left yet and it would be lovely if she found a special home |

Hi all - thanks so much for the links. I've sent them on to Mum via my brother as Mum doesn't do computers! I've also asked Kaye for a home check to be arranged. Mum agrees that Slip sounds really lovely. The more I look at Slip's lovely face the more I think she could be the right one for Mum. Dasher is definately the one that looks almost identical to Oscar, but as Mum says now she is a bit more resigned to losing him, she mustn't expect to 'replace' him as it will never happen. Thanks a lot for your continuing help. Mum will be able to breathe again once she has a dog with her. |

For all you who have helped and supported my poor Mum in her grief when Oscar died, this is to let you know she has got another lease of life, with a totally sweet little lurcher youngster. She is considering a name for this darling little girl who has had a very chequered past in her very short life.
Pictures first!
Here she is with Mum, half an hour after getting home
At Mum's feet already!
How she likes to lie down!!
And my favourite picture. She's such a lovely girl.
After all that, thanks so much to all of you who helped point us in the right direction. Mum had so many close shaves only to be disappointed. This time, Kaye from lurcherlink forwarded an email from a colleague who runs a dogs home near to us and we went to see her immediately. Home check done next day and hey presto, we collected her this morning.
Mum wanted me to say she's very touched indeed that everyone has been so supportive of her. Thank you all!! |

Hooray Ahhh, She looks such a sweety Roseanne and the dog looks lovely too Is she the one that was previously called Sasha? I quite like the name Honey too, I used to ride a lovely mare with that name. She looks like she's made herself at home, love the 'frogs legs' pose in the second to last photo. I hope it all works out for her and your mum

Wonderful Like Goldenmane I am close to tears - your Mum so needs this dogga. And, as Lanabanana says; loving the 'frog legs', and her oh so sweet smile in the last photo. Babs is right - she is a honey!! A happy ending and new beginning

Hi everyone,
Thanks SO much for all your good wishes for Mum. I think the two are happily bonding - though I haven't seen them since we left them in the living room on that first day. They've been out walking and the dog was allowed to sleep in Mum's room that night - probably will be allowed for ever now, though she is happy to sleep alone and be left alone. It's a great ending to Mum's real distress after Oscar died.
Lanabanana - that's the one!! Thank you very much for your part!
Once again, thanks for everyone's help and support. This is a great site - without it, she wouldn't have this new friend!
I'll post more pics later in the summer when she's filled out a bit. Happy days... |
