Shortly after we moved into our house a little grey/bluey ccolour cat appeared, really thin and terrified of humans, so I left food down for her every night and made a cat flap into the tack room for her and sometimes we would see her laying on the roof beams, but normally if she saw any of us she would run for her life. My cat would sit back and watch her eat the food we put down for her and never make any attempt to eat it or take it off her , which amazed us and they got on so well, I was hoping that gradually she would get over her fear and join the family. Yesterday my son said there was a cat laying in the raod of our lane and I jumped in the car and went racing off up the lane to find that our little visitor had been killed and left in the road to die, I was absolutely heartbroken, we wrapped her up in a blanket and brought her home and buried her, My son bless him, dug a deep hole and sat and made a little wooden cross for her, its so sad we could not have shown her how much we loved her while she was alive, only when she died, she was pitifully thin, its so sad, I hate life sometimes

soo sorry mittens, we must have posted at the same time, thank you for your kind words, I am so upset at the mment, it was awful there was so much blood and she was oviously alive for a while after the accident I just wish I had found her earlier, thank you again, this site used to be so warm and friendly, but not many bother any more it seems, just the few who really care, like yourself |

No need to apologise! I understand how you must be feeling and naturally angry that whoever did it just drove off.I have to say that sadly there are people out there who really don't give a toss about animals. You've given her a resting place from which she can leap to that giant bowl of kittykat in the sky |

So sorry I know what it's like, I get so attached to the semi ferals and farm cats I adopt and it's heartbreaking when anything happens to her. At least you were able to give her some food and shelter for a short while.
RIP little grey cat. xx |

Thank you for understanding, she lived in the drains at the side of the lane where we live and I only said the other day that the tuna we were feeding her should entice her to stay at ours and gradually leave the drains, we heard alot of kids on their mopeds yesterday go racing past the house, I wonder if it was them, not that it matters now, but she was such a pretty cat with a fluffy coat but she was terribly thin and seemed even thinner when we picked her up, but we have buried her behind the stables and covered the grave with white stones so the foxes can't get her and my son put a wooden cross up to mark where she is buried, just sooo very very sad. |

I think you did show her how much you loved her when she was alive by feeding her, making a cat flap for her and caring about her. You could have forced her to stay in and she would have hated it as she was obviously semi-feral. Sending you a big hug for being so caring. |

Oh Gerri how awful i would be heartbroken too. You did show her love though and if she was eating the food you left down for her at least she was going to sleep each night with a full tummy. You couldn't have done anymore for her but life is soo cruel sometimes. Just be glad that you helped when you could and were there to lay her to rest with some dignity at the end. xx |

How sad. It is hard to understand how some people treat animals. Your story I find particularly sad as it reminds me of a little cat that adopted us when we lived in Libya when I was about five. I remember it as a little blue grey cat, but it may have been a different colour - when we found it it was covered in blue grey paint. We took it in and looked after it, but it didn't survive, although I can't remember whether it died from the paint or something else. However, it is one of those memories that stay with you forever.
I told the OH the other day that he can't leave me or die before I do otherwise I can't be responsible for my actions - I would end up the mad old animal woman, adopting everything in sight!
Sometimes you wonder why life has to be like it is.

Gerri, how very sad, but you showed her love and kindness and offered her warmth and food, so god bless you for that. Horrible though to find her dead like that. RIP little kitty!!

So sorry for your loss Gerri, & how sad that the person who knocked her over didn't try & find out who owned her - could've at least knocked on the nearest house door? RIP little cat. |

That's brought tears to my eyes. So sorry no-one replied early Gerri, but we have now.
She knew you loved her - why else would you give her food and shelter every night, on HER terms - she felt safe enough with you to keep coming back.
RIP little cat.
Hugs for you Gerri. xx |

Gerri you are such a wonderful caring person...and so sad that your little cat did not have long to indulge your kindness. You really are an angel, and I am sure you really made a difference to the short life of one of God`s creatures. Kitty is now at peace, suffering has ended, and she had experienced love and kindness, and a nice full tummy, before her sad end.
Big Hugs

Somehow sharing it with my friends on here made it seem that her life and death did not go un noticed also I was so upset that I wanted some comfort from like minded people who would understand how I was feeling and my comments were not made to anyone that was not on the net but 33 people had read it and only 2 or 3 had answered at the time so I was hurt that so many people looked but could not say anything but to those of you who took the time to offer comforting words and sympathy for the dear little stray, I thank you from the bottom of my heart as I loved her and every living thing deserves better than what was dealt to her Rip Flash (thats what we called her because as soon as she saw you she was gone in a flash) |

I'm sorry, that's so sad. I'm sure she knew you were helping her and she had warmth & food when she needed it. I've only just seen this post (was at work from 07.15am) so couldn't have replied sooner.
