Just thinking now & day dreaming.........if we do take the old boy Rameed to the Welsh Crabbet show - what head gear do we need for himself...I think he will be rather excited about it all (long time since he's seen a show ring) - so a bit would prob be appropriate! & what would be required in showing him inhand.....standing him up etc? He appears to remember nothing about his inhand showing in his youth! So - pm me with details of where to get a nice Arab stallion inhand halter job!!!!

Of course - this is all day dreaming....................

As far as I knew crabbets are shown 'naturally'. In other words no pose, trotted quietly (as for other breeds) and stood square and relaxed. Although we all know how impossible that is with an excited horse on the end of the lead lol!!
As far as bridle is concerned it would all depend on him and his head shape etc. I do love authentics with the shark tooth nose, just doesnt seem to suit any of mine...........typical. Traditionally gold leather bridles are used on chestnuts. Although you can choose what you like!

Well Judith as you're thinking ahead.......you need to practice thefollowing " Horses MUST be shown in a natural manner. The pose must be natural i.e fore feet together, and one hind leg slightly behind the other. The head should be held with the neck showing a natural arch. The head should be in a line with a point around 6-8 inches below the wither. The horse should be trained to stand quietly in this position with an expression of interest in the handler.
Any unnatural posing, flicking with a whip, or circling when being run out will result in the horse and exhibitor being asked to leave the ring."

So there you go, thats your homework, I'll test you when I visit next week

It is MHO that really dainty frilly bridles do not suit a crabbet head. A more substantial but not course bridle is called for. Being a stallion he would have to wear a bit as its mandatory for stallions.

The natural pose/non pose as described by Pashon2001 and Tomos, does that just apply to crabbets then? Or is that the new rule for all?
Looking at some pictures at previous shows last year and looking through   most of them are in an exaggerated pose stretched right out and heads much higher than 6-8 inches below the withers!
I'm wanting to do some shows this year and would like to make sure I try to do it the right way and stick to the rules
Becci.

Oh bliss--would that all in hand Arabs were shown this way!

Good luck Judith---Gorgeous Rameed will do you proud.

Don't you dare wimp out so easily missy!!!!!!

There is a big difference between a horse which won't stand still because of excitement and one that is being made to not stand still. I can't believe a judge would penalise you for genuine excitement, besides I LOVE it when the oldies show the youngsters how's it done - without all the whirling and twirling.

Come on you know you want to.......

Judith the rules are what to aim for, as Vera said no reasonable judge will penalise a horse for being a little excited, its to stop the deliberate hyping up of horses, and also so judges are really able to look at conformation and action.

Becci, sadly these are only the rules for showing Crabbets, though personally I always show Arabs in this way and the more of us who do, the better for the breed in my humble opinion !

Nkki thats great that you're bringing your girls.

By the way Judith I think he would look very fetching in gold !

I like the sort of bridle that Daas is wearing on page 5 on the Crabbet thread. Mandy's one sounds ideal.

Those rules sound like my type of showing, such a shame the rest dont follow suit. Anyway hope you do the show, it sounds like a good crowd of people and your sure to have fun. (probably not as much fun as your boy) but you will laugh about it later:)

That sounds the sort of thing I was going to suggest - the kind of stallion bridle Arabs *used* to be shown in .

IMO, the very delicate halters used today don't always suit stallions anyway - they are too mimsy. A guy who's all man needs something macho to suit!

In the 'good old days' our lad was in a stallion bridle (brass fittings) and handler in traditional turnout.... When fashions changed we compromised

Shah was never the daintiest boy and we found this Western headstall suited him really well.... worth considering as your boy has a stripe and a rolled slip may look feeble on him, a noseband might break his face up to make him look too workmanlike (if you know what I mean?)
