This seems an all too common problem. You give your horse to someone you trust and through lack of judgement you end up with huge vet bills and behaviour problems.Let alone the loss of a dream(forget the money!) You've done an amazing job as always. I think when you've experienced something like that, you would be hard pushed to ever trust anyone again with your horses. It will never cease to amaze me the lack of knowledge out there. Sometimes the more knowledgeable people appear the worse they are, and usually they are the first to tell you how bad everyone else is at the job! What a transformation once Harley had your TLC. I wish you all the best for the future. To everyone else, I say BEWARE!! |

And me!! Well done all for giving this boy his life back. He is a credit to your care and compassion, and I have no doubt he and Evie will be flying that Arabian flag for all to see.
They say what goes around, comes around, and I certainly hope this turns out to be true for whoever did this to your beautiful boy.

I remember adverts posted by this trainer some years back, how was anyone to know just what he was capable of? 'if only' there had been a prosecution, it would be in the public domain and everyone could know who it was - or others out there who are just as bad that we all do not know the names.
With not knowing the bad, the good kind trainers are also put under a cloud of suspicion.
Can I advise anyone considering a trainer to find out which horses they have produced and contact all the owners for testimonials, or do some of your own research, they are there with their photos splashed around all the big shows, you know who the horse is, ask the owner. |

So glad there has been a happy ending to this story, and look forward to the continuing progress of your lovely boy ...........
I agree with Pat we need to check up on "so called" producers of Arabian Horses and were they have trained and what experience they have, can they give references produced by clients or employees, or maybe the AHS need to bring in some kind of trainers license with checks done by the AHS.... after all to be a judge you have to pass a number of assessments and exams and i consider a professional trainer should have as much knowledge as a judge as they judging these horses on a daily basis for show condition health and fitness etc.
( also i am aware that a number of Professional Trainers are judges )
Looked forward to your thoughts on this! |

There was talk of trainers having to apply to the AHS for licences, I did not follow this up as I am not showing these days, and if I did, already know people I would trust.
I do though think that the AHS should be under a duty under their charitable status that includes welfare to positivly investigate ANY complaint where it involved the paid services of anyone dealing with a registered Arabian, (part or anglo).
These results should be made available to ALL show secretaries, as the DC's jobs would be easier if they had more idea who should be watched more carefully at an actual show.
Unfortuantely many of the instances happen at the trainers premises, or where they go to train, these may result in complaints being made that are more difficult to prove after time has elapsed.
Keep your camera phones handy, then let them try and explain what you have caught on camera.
