OMG, that is s ooooooo true! I started off feeding my ex-feral cat on dry food, then cheap tins, then more expensive tins, etc, etc. Now he only eats the most expensive pouches. At least I haven't taken him home.,.... yet |

Hhmmm, how true! I found an old (very old) cat walking along in busy road when coming home from a Late shift a year ago this week. All the cars were slowing down and going around her, so I left my car in the middle of the road, she veered into a garden where, after literally pushing through a hedge backwards (still in NHS uniform), I managed to creep up behind and catch her.
When I got her home I could see she was probably as old as Methusalah's mother, skinny, a dreadful staring & scurfy coat, sunken eyes, stone deaf. So I fed her (ravenous), shut her in the spare room with a bed, a litter tray which she couldn't find & kept her legs crossed until she was in the car going to the Vets the next day!
Vet confirmed she was deaf, no microchip, probably between 18-20 years old, only 2 teeth left, with a large mass somewhere in her abdomen.....so I had her tested for FIV and FLV (both negative), put up posters in the vicinity of where I'd found her, informed CPL and all the local vets........
......and she's still with me! Except now she'll only eat expensive food (won't touch the tins my other 5 cats eat) and Gwen does what she wants. My other cats have all accepted her but give her a wide berth because, even though she is very doddery, she can strike out like lightning when she wants to! She likes the bed in "her" room, the patch of sunlight on the landing in the mornings, the radiator in the afternoon/evening and about 5 small meals per day; she occasionally wanders around downstairs and has never tried to use the catflap.
She has put on weight, her coat is better, she manages to eat biscuits whole and is very happy and content and loves a fuss. She likes to know where I am and, as she is deaf, miouws VERY LOUDLY to find me. I keep her claws trimmed because she gets caught on the carpets if I don't. I didn't get the mass investigated and it doesn't bother her in any way.
Here is Gwen:

Ah how lovely, she is such a pretty girl too, I have seen a little grey and white cat here really thin and as soon as she sees us she runs for her life, the first time I saw her she was laying on one of our roof strutts so I put a tin of tuna down for her, which she ate and my cat just sat and watched her have seen her a couple of times since and put food down but have not seen her for the last couple of weeks and am very worried about her. to be honest we could do with another cat or two. |

Aw, Caryn, that is so sweet Can't see the photo at the moment so will look when I get home. My old yard cat has a similar story, I started feeding him about 3 years ago and it took ages to get him tame, but he has one or two teeth left, is 18+, very old, trots along at a very slow walking speed, and rules the yard {:D]
Hope Gwen has many more happy years with you. x |
