The horses will be going into the summer fields in a few weeks. The fields are huge with trees, gullys and drops. I,ve got it in my head that Magic won't see the drops and gullys and fall over. The field had racehorses in it last year and they were fine. Am I just worrying too much?
I like to lead the horse around the boundary when introducing them to a new field. This is only safe to do if there are no horses in it obviously!! I show them where the water is as well.
Thanks Vera. I'm glad its not just me that has a head full off "what if's"! I will probably lead her round and make sure she knows where the drops are and where the water is. I'm sure she would figure it out for herself but hey ho!, im an overprotective mother.
I always used to lead mine round a new field - made for some exciting times by the time I had 4 to lead! Now, I'm not so worried and anyway, if there's something to fall down/over/in Rasheeka will find it whether I've led her around or not
A quiet lead about before hand will show horsey the ropes so to speak. Walk it yourselves too - if you fail to notice something until last minute a road cone or post with some flapping plastic will act as a good signal for a day or 2 (but do remove them after they've found their way around) Chances are all will be well

I think its good to worry about things before they happen then you can maybe do something to safegaurd, I always walked my horses slowly in hand around the perimeter of the field and any questionable areas that might cause you concern............ touch wood it has always worked, good on you thinking ahead
